He's qualified for England, just the small issue of making the side. The reality is that someone like Ed with such a solid technique and the fact that he's a leftie and young and an opener is only ever a few games away from a Lions call-up. He needs to string about 4 hundreds together in a season and not have an extended bad run and he'd definitely be in with a shout. Then of course you need a good tour and then that good form has to coincide with an England opener imploding. Then pray your first test is against West Indies, Bangladesh or Sri Lanka. A few planets have to align.
The one thing that counts against him is he takes a long time to get going in his innings', but I'm sure he's working on that.

You ask the majority of cricketers what their preferred format is and they all tell you Test cricket is the ultimate, but more than half just think its the right thing to say
I'm not suggesting that's the case with Ed.

Assume his dream doesn't reach fruition but has a successful FC career, it's likely he'd want at some point to play international cricket for Zim. Could he live with 3 one off tests a year? Could he adapt his game to become a good T20 player or 50 over player? My 10c worth is yes he could and would make a Zim team but no telling how he'd do internationally, particularly in T20. I think he'd be good in 50 over though.
Hes into his last season and had one move already, he's going to be under pressure to do well this year. It's a tough sport, but I'm not doubting him for a second, he's an excellent batsman.

No doubt he has some inner conflict, your roots are your roots. Plus grew up playing cricket with a lot of guys here.
England needs to play Zim and he will know immediately where his heart belongs, its a very simple test and he knows the answer.

Nice of him to mention mavuta and musikiwa as future zim players.

Ok mavuta has played national before, Byrom has alluded to him having too much too soon and that he would be a great addition to national side and has worked really hard lately.
Praise indeed!

Ya he speaks well and is fairly diplomatic. He did mention that he left because Zim cricket was in turmoil and our future was uncertain. He could have dodged that.

As a fact everyone follows Zim games. It's mostly anguish with the odd moment of unadulterated joy. It's not good for the health at all.
I mentioned this before but Houghton and Raza have plastered over some yawning chasms, but we're back to reality. Yes we did well to qualify for this T20 WC and yes we had a great win, but the remainder of the WC games were capitulations that made me sweat. We are actually better than we demonstrated, I don't know how we keep rolling over like that, it's so frustrating and I don't know about anyone else but it's embarrassing. The cricketing world wants to take us seriously but it's not easy.

Once again I'm not understanding why people are more optimistic about our chances in 50 over.
Afghanistan are actually a formidable side. Their batting does not have much depth, but their bowling is absolutely top drawer, it's better than ours, does anyone disagree with that? Their seamers are quicker and more accurate and they've got world class spinners, they're going to cause our batters massive problems.

I mean Noor Ahmad wasn't even in their T20 side, someone explain that to me. The guy is one of the best on the planet and he's still only 11 years old. We are very likely to have to deal with him.

All the Zimbo batters barring perhaps Wes is better at odi than t20.

Everyone is better at 50 over, you can play more percentage shots, can afford a few dot balls.

I agree with this a lot.

Like we had some really great moments these last few months, but we finished last in the Super 12s. We had a great opportunity to qualify for the semis, or even make top 8, and we messed up big time. As much as we had good moments, we can't gloss over this. A lot of those good moments came down to one or two individuals.

Look at how our fast bowlers bowled in the last 5 against India. Could barely land it on the pitch. Look how the Afghan bowlers bowled against Aus. Pinpoint yorkers. When Ngarava and Blessing kept getting hit, they just kept doing the same thing.

When one actually analyses the games individually and looks at the other teams, it should actually be alarming the way we ended that tournament.
