Chakabva needs to start farming the strike a bit, the last three could fall pretty quickly otherwise.
It'd be great if we could somehow get through to stumps. Then we'd be in the situation of BD putting on say +150 tomorrow morning, declare at tea day 4 - then we bat 4 sessions to save the game.
if we dont get runs then 2 days of stonewalling wont mean anything
but fuck me this is boring to watch, think im starting to unferstand why people feel test cricket is for yesteryear.
Runs don't really matter at this point IMO because we can't win. But the longer we bat, the longer we delay Bangladesh's declaration tomorrow.
thats wrong, because without a buffer, Bdesh can use up every opportunity up until the last ball of the day to win.
and again, when a batsman is simply stonewalling, it becomes very easy to get them out via field placings. Its the element of surprise that makes it difficult to get a good bat out.
very rarely in history can someone stonewall longer than a day. you just crowd the batsman.

Also, i do have to say that Kaitano did very well, and responded brilliantly to my criticism earlier of his selection, and I can eat humble pie.
he is limited, and im sure he wont replicate it often, but he made the most of his opportunity and determination overcame his limited skillset.
He has also likely spelt the end of 32 yr old prince Masvaures test career, who just dropped to at least 4th behind Shumba, Kaitano and the younger Kasuza and someone like Chari still lurking in the background.

Yea I don't want to see Prince anywhere near the test side again. Very much an over rated entity. KZ I believe still has a lot to offer. Chari could be a choice in the LOI's, in recent years he's reinvented himself a bit and his strike rate is absolutely excellent.
There's options and the youngsters coming in have given the lineup some depth.
Really really impressed with Shumba. Some if those easy mid wicket strokes were lovely
chari is another maruma, chibhabha he is not an nternational standard..mashinge, bright matsiwe, munyonga,Rodney mufudza, chipangu should try in test matches
Zimbabwe will avoid the follow on. Key for Bangladesh will be to bowl Zimbabwe out before the end of the days play. Will be hard work on what is now a pretty flat surface with just 4 bowlers.
What a sage!
Excellent day in the end for us. Man I went to bed at the lunch break (I couldn't keep my eyes open any longer as it was 5 am in the US) and missed the infamous ZIM collapse. Haven't read the thread yet so I'm sure its been covered, but to collapse for 8 wickets inside 40 or 50 odd runs on a wicket this flat has to be one of the worst efforts in modern Test history. Its right up there with India's 36 all out from early this year and when Bangladesh lost 9 for 30 at this very ground in 2013. This is [now] a 500 wicket.
I have to search for the highlights just to see what happened.
Looks like most of the batsman perished trying to sweep as per usual. I've said this a million times on this forum, but the sweep is a shot that should only be used sparingly. Reverse sweeps even more sparingly. It appears as though the Shumba/Myers generation is taking after the Taylor generation in being overly reliant on sweeping.
Myers did look good, not gonna lie. Haven't seen Shumba, but I have seen Madhevere and Myers now and yes they are way better than the previous generations. However, I don't know if they will be able to match the Taylor/Williams/Ervine group. Only time will tell. But these kids have to play every game. I knew Kaia was a dud when I first saw him vs Pakistan. Something about his awkward front foot just sticking out.
Brendon Taylor deserves a lot of criticism for how he batted. People might see a run a ball 80, but it was an innings fraught with risk and needless aggression. On a wicket where a #10 scores a 75, batters need to score big daddy hundreds.

On the other hand without Williams ervine and raza perhaps Taylor knew a collapse was inevitable so get as much runs and eat into the total as possible.
Hard to criticise a man for getting 80 odd.
Maybe if he poked and prodded Zimbabwe would be 185 all out and bangladesh would have enforced follow on.
Could have been all over by lunchtime tomorrow
Wasn't able to watch today. Sad to have missed our victory in the morning session. Not that sad to miss our losses in the next two sessions.
Well done TK for such a dogged effort.
Missed Taylor getting past Whittall and Hamilton. Doubt he has time to pass ADRC, Crimson.
I guess it is good we avoided the follow on. Avoiding innings defeat and getting to Day 5 is probably better than losing tomorrow morning by an innings and 60.

Except that he plays the same way in many other instances as well. He compulsively reverse sweeps, and to be honest plays the shot quite well, BUT its such a risky white ball shot to play in Test cricket that it boggles the mind. If he batted with a modicum of restraint he could average 45 or at least 40.
The last 3-4 years has proven to me, that Williams is actually the greatest ZIM batsman post 2004. This will probably be a highly controversial point, but Williams has shown tremendous grit for several years now whereas BT has gone the opposite way. You won't see Williams lofting the ball every over.

Williams is the best Zimbabwe batsman post 2004. It's a shame we don't get mant yests per year
