What does Schonken bowl?
Re: Under 19s thread. Players and under 19 matches
Thanks for the update. Great to see the U19 team going through their paces and the likes Marumani and co. getting a game. Did Munyonga play and Logan cup or Pro50 cricket this year? I hope Mathew Schonken is a pace bowler, he ran through the Zim Select XI like a hot knife through butter.secretzimbo wrote: ↑Fri Dec 03, 2021 9:06 pmA scorecard has appeared;secretzimbo wrote: ↑Fri Dec 03, 2021 12:12 pmThe U19s are playing a Zim U23 side today. Ali Connolly has turned up which is interesting as he is another who is at school in the U.K. I think.
Several more black lads involved apparently, some of whom I’ve never heard of. Mgcini Dube is back in the side as well who I’ve always rated.

Ya I'm pretty sure Schonken is a seamer. No idea how quick he is though.
So theres a couple of lads in this side I've never heard of on the school scene.
Fortune Mhlanga and Mashford Shungu sound like Manica lads, not sure they ever went to any of the top schools?
Newman Nyamhuri - Apparently he's only 16. From Lomagundi
Luyanda Mutomba - no idea. Is he one of the boys from SA?

Hope Schonken makes the team then. But with Saul, Welch Jr, Wolhurter and either one of both the Bennets all being shoe-ins. How many white boys are we really gonna take?

Is Connor Grant the younger brother of 2020s Dylan Grant?

Good to see ZC organizing some games for the U19s. Hopefully they do well next month at the WC.
Not good that Afghanistan is in the same group though, meaning they'll be up against 25 - 28 yr olds

Re: Under 19s thread. Players and under 19 matches
They're under-prepared compared to other past Zim teams and other current u19 sides. It seems they always take a last minute look at people that haven't even been on the radar for the previous two years as well, that smacks of desperation, that box should have been ticked a year ago. What's the likelihood of someone doing well that hasn't been close to that level of cricket before one month before WC? We seem short in the bowling dept, and woefully short of quick bowlers. There's no stand out spinner either, some decent guys, but none that are consistent enough or threatening enough to trouble quality batsmen. I think we're going to struggle. The batters are going to get a wake up when they face 140, because there are always u19's in these top sides that are uber fast. Welch Jr looks promising, he looks real quality up until the point he plays a crap shot, which seems inevitable. He's currently a 20-40 run specialist, the curse of the Zimbabwean batsman, he just can't seem to kick on. The batters appear to be Welch, Wolhuter (keeper?), Bennet and Saul, there doesn't seem to be much else. You need 7 good batsmen and we seem to only have 4. In order to win games 3 of our 4 need to fire. In a balanced side 3 of 7 batters have to fire. We're going to need some tail end heroics from someone.
We really needed Gibbs (supposedly got a Dolphins contract), he's a good player. I think he came here for a couple of games, didn't do too much and wasn't being taken that seriously, and then goes and gets a professional contract. Either the Dolphins selectors or our guys have gotten that one hopelessly wrong.

Is Bawa back at school now? Presumably he will be back in the side in the Windies.
Googly, Saul will be the keeper not Wolhuter. Has kept in every match over the past couple of months.

Sorry had forgotten about Bhawa. He'll be caught in UK during the annual covid Xmas prevent a legal migration scam. They don't seem to be enforcing the quarantine thing at the airport yet, but he may just join them in West Indies. God forbid that omnicron kills a single person between now and January or the world will lockdown.
Now that openly homosexual Santas seem to be the order of the day that side, its a grim place to be stuck.
Imagine having to explain to your kid why Santa has his tongue down a guy's throat and it looks like he may have smuggled an avocado in his underpant. You'll soon see the sexual orientation of your 1 year old son when he refuses (or not) to be bounced on Santa's knee.

Had forgotten about Bawa, he played well st the last U19 WC, Last I heard he was in England. Maybe he is taking the Myers route and turning his back on an international cricket career? Will they even get opportunities to break into the county scene?secretzimbo wrote: ↑Sat Dec 04, 2021 8:11 pmIs Bawa back at school now? Presumably he will be back in the side in the Windies.
