Ahh so hepatic encephalopathy would explain your massive cognitive deficits. A clinical picture is becoming clearer.

Sorry to interrupt the impeding war between yourself and Googly, but genuine question; do you know how this crop of Bangladesh kids are shaping up? Was 2020 a fluke? Are they likely to be more at Zim's level/just above again this time? Or genuine contenders again?Kriterion_BD wrote: ↑Tue Dec 28, 2021 8:28 pmYou've got the defending World Champs as a warmup...how much bigger name you want?![]()

Bd u19 was in a tri series with Ind u19 A and B which was like INd u19 divided into 2 sides and beat them both comprehensively. Sri Lanka managed to roll them 5-0 at home but 3 of the matches were pretty close. They are definetely one of the best in Asia
Re: 2022 U19 World Cup Thread
I don’t mean to be disagreeable, but there is this notion that county 2nd team, such and such rich England college can beat low tier cricket nations. That has never been true, yes, they have piles of cash, great facilities, good coaches, dieticians etc, but international cricket is a different ball game, just as England are discovering now down under. Being the leading county league run scorer doesn’t guarantee you anything. Secondly, some of those kids in those hoity-Toity institutions are there based on class and not necessarily talent most are well trained, great on the fundamentals but I guarantee you that none of them will survive Lasith Malinga, Muralitharan, Nyumbu, Shaun Tait, Narine because that’s not the type of bowling (barely legal) they are trained to face in their academies. We’ve had some experienced county batsmen pop up in Zwe for Logan cup, these guys aren’t smashing double centuries. A county batsmen facing a county bowler under county conditions is not the same as said batsman facing a Zim bowler on a hot, dry afternoon in Bulawayo sport club
Re: 2022 U19 World Cup Thread
Same goes for bowlers, academy bowlers are trained to bowl a certain way, brush the ear, follow through, group your balls, seam movement etc. that works when bowling against a batsman who plays straight, plays balls on merit etc. what happens when you face Chris Gayle who has decided that he’s going to roast everything thrown at him and particularly hit the first ball for a six regardless of line or length? What happens when you face AB Dde Villiers, Noel Johnson, Kevin Pietersen, Brendan Taylor who don’t conform to orthodoxy?? What happens when you face Dhoni who spent his career holding his bat like a broomstick while smashing bowlers all. Lauding county and high society British cricket as being better than any full international cricket team is fallacious comparing Surrey and Zimbabwe is like comparing apples and oranges

Depends on how you define the term "fluke"? Bangladesh are a powerhouse at the Under-19 level (for obvious reasons) and have been for the past 10-15 years. They are usually a top 5 side - top 5 in terms of talent, not always results. India and Pakistan are always in the top 5, and Australia are there half the time...that only leaves 2-3 more sides who can fit into the top 5 in any given year. England and South Africa have their occaisional years, and West Indies too. Everyone else from New Zealand on down are really there to just make up the numbers. So at U19 level, there are really only 6-7 serious sides.
I knew the 2020 side was good, probably the best we've ever had (2006 batch had Tamim, Shakib, Mushfiq, but no bowlers). I would have said they were easily the 2nd best team behind India. The 2020 batch wasn't as strong in batting, but was very well balanced with a strong pace attack, good spin attack, and solid batting. I would have been heavily disappointed if they failed to make the semis. Once they made the final, it was a matter of having a good day and executing their gameplan which they did fairly well with loads of bravado added in for entertainment value. India were the better team obviously, but a final only requires you to be marginally better on the day, and we did that. So were we the best side? No, so you can say it was a fluke. Did we win by random chance? No, so you can say it wasn't a fluke. It was all planned out by Khaled Mahmud and the coaching and training staff for 2 years.
How is the 2022 crop?
I don't know for sure, but I would guess the current crop are nowhere near as good as the last batch. They have two returnees from the World Champion side in captain Rakibul Hasan (SLA), and Tazid Hasan Sakib (RFM), so the bowling should be okay. But I doubt how good the batting lineup is. They were 130-4 from 30 odd overs against Sri Lanka yesterday before the match was abandoned, but SL haven't ever been world beaters unlike their senior side.
Are they likely to be at ZIM's level?
Unless ZIM qualify for the quarterfinals, I highly doubt it. This Bangladesh side should make it to the quarterfinals, and I expect to them finish anywhere from 6th to 8th place. So no, I don't expect this BD side to be contenders.

Re: 2022 U19 World Cup Thread
For those asking where the U19 champion BD kids are...3 of them have already debuted for the senior side.
Shoriful Islam has played all 3 formats, has done quite well in the white ball format so far. Has bowled in the mid 130s and touched 140 km/hr on occaision. Is in the Test squad touring NZ right now, although he might just warm the bench.
Shamim Hossain Patwary debuted in the T20s against Zimbabwe and he needs more time to be ready for the highest level. Has some talent to work with, but I'm not sure he's the real deal.
Mahmudul Hasan Joy debuted vs Pakistan a few weeks ago and has done really well in first class cricket, with a career average above 50 already. I think he's got a big future ahead, but not as a opening batter. I'd like to see him bat in the middle order, but that is congested as of right now.

Even by your standards you set the bar pretty low with that oneKriterion_BD wrote: ↑Tue Dec 28, 2021 9:18 pmAhh so hepatic encephalopathy would explain your massive cognitive deficits. A clinical picture is becoming clearer.
