He needs to come in for the ireland one day matches as he has been in superb one day form also.
Should be a shoe in for the west indies tests.

First time i have seen Ben Curran bat. Thoughts.....
Nice flicks and pulls, Looks like he has an array of shots.
Completely covers his stumps with his pads, A prime LBW candidate against top class swing bowling. Survived one big appeal this innings.
I dont think he is the messiah like Ballance but would be a welcome addition to the side if he gets more consistency.

From his set-up, it looks to me like he would be more comfortable in the shorter formats.

Looks like Clive Madande will keep wicket from what Houghton has said today. He also mentioned that Marumani will play as a batsman.

Its nice to hear Gary Ballance is spending a lot of time with Wesley Madhevere in the nets. Hopefully class rubs off on him.secretzimbo wrote: ↑Mon Jan 09, 2023 10:12 pmA smart decision.
I don't think T20 is necessarily Madande's natural game but I hope he can take this chance.
So could this be the line up
1 Madhevere
2 Ervine
3 Ballance
4 williams
5 Marumani
6 madande
7 Burl
8 Jongwe/Evans
9 wellington
10 Ngarava
11 Chatara

Surely Marumani opens?Donald wrote: ↑Mon Jan 09, 2023 10:23 pm

Ballance & Ervine could easily swap spots, or Wes could indeed open and with everyone else slipping down a spot.
Keen to see how Madande goes with both gloves & bat, not sure what type of batsman he is but his limited overs numbers are not the best.

Ervine isn’t a T20 player and isn’t really even suited for the modern ODI game either. But if he has to play it has to be opening so that he can take advantage of the PP.
Ideally T20 openers should be Marumani + Wesley. Wes should probably be at 3 or 4 for ODIs.
Excited about this series because it will really prove if the Houghton era wins vs Bangladesh and Australia were legit or not. The T20 WC was pretty poor apart from the win against PAK. It was Raza vs the world.

Ervine absolutely has the ability to improve his strike rate and to get going a bit earlier. He needs some work in this dept but a guy of his pedigree cannot be overlooked.
Of course if we bat second and chasing a mediocre total then he's ideal to play more of an anchor.
Plus it's likely with all this weather that the pitches and outfield won't be conducive to big totals.
It's almost like Craig needs a couple of early buffet balls to break the shackles.

Stroke makers like him and Ballance ideally have to bat front 3.
