It still amazes me that Taibu won player of the tournament in 2002. There is some serious talent at this level and to think they saw him as the best player on display then is a real achievement. Funny enough Mwayenga picked up the most wickets that tournament too.

Taibu could have been something really special. He is just a hot head. Williams is very calm compared to him it's just sad seeing how the "big 4" hit their peak in their 30s but Taibu was done playing in his early 30s. I wonder if he has any regrets.

Well done to the Indian lads for winning their 5th title. All 5 Asian sides in the top 8, although Bangladesh were shit for the most part!

All these top sides have 3-6 guys that have played FC or list A and are contracted or academy players, and in high quality environments. How on earth do you compete with that?
All some of these guys have to do is just a bit of fine tuning and they're capable of playing international cricket. And the fine tuning is mostly mental stuff.
It's fascinating and depressing at the same time.

Not for India as the domestic season did'nt took place for last 2 years. Yes, after under 19 selection few are given chance in domestic to get accustomed to some top quality pace & spin to get ready for the WC, but this year it did'nt happen as the pandemic ruined entire domestic season.

Taibu and Madhevere remind me alot of each other.

I think Taibus growth was stunted by drama after drama, he could have been world class in the right setup.

Bangladesh still won the Cup last year and South Africa won in 2014. India, Pakistan, and Australia will win it 80% of the time though.

The step up for top side players is also quite huge. Aussie and Indian U-19 stars will go on to face Bumrah, Starc, Cummins, Anderson, Hazlewood in 2-3 years time. The other kids will go on to face the likes of Shanaka, Kumara, and Little.
