Andy Blignaut

Post by esatiya »

I dont know if anyone has notice in todays Herald. There is an article which says Alister Campell has been talking to Andy Blignaught on a possible comeback, and he says he is interested. Hopefully we will be seeing some pace bowling from Andy soon :D

Domestically Blignaught would be a great addition. (Hope he joins Eagles) Internationally I truly dont know, his what 34/35 years old??? I remember when he played that return test against SA around 2005/06 he had lost most of his pace. At his peak he could get it around 145km/h.

True that @tawac, i dont think he still has that sting that made him famous but it will be good to get all the experience back in the country and its good to get those names, it shows that there is a bit of trust on the current board.
12.4 Odhiambo to Vermeulen, FOUR, that's an appalling long hop, Vermulen had plenty of time to get into position, drink a cup of tea, and pull the ball towards the long leg boundary- his first boundary today

I think he's only about 31 years old but I'm not sure. I'm a big fan so I'd just like to see him back playing domestically and then take it from there.

I think ZCF is full of Bliggie fans. Almost every alternate person who lands up as member of ZCF asks the wherabouts of Blignaut as their first post. And yes, he was quick, in the 2003 WC, he was officially the 3rd fastest bowler, behind Brett Lee and Shoaib Akhtar, clocking a max of 148 kmph, not to mention his blitzkrieg batting too.

Question is how much of that is still there after, what, 4-5 years with no match experience? Part of me would definitely love to see him back, but I don't know if I'd want to see him if he's just a shadow of the Bliggie we knew & loved...

Thanks very much for the info :)

Yes, Andy Blignaut is 31 years old.

Player Profile: http://www.cricinfo.com/zimbabwe/conten ... 55259.html

He played his last official match for Highveld Lions in 2006.

I'm a very very big fan of Andy Blignaut and I rate him very highly. He could have been a world class player if he stuck around. Much experienced player playing in countries like Aus, Eng, Sou representing teams like Tasmania, Durham and Highveld Lions although all for a short stint.

Blignaut is an excellent allrounder. I think he can be a devastating Twenty-20 player also. Blignaut did have raw pace and also got the aggression. He is very handy with the bat also, very aggressive batsman and can hit the ball for a long distance. He can be very useful in the middle order also.

Yes, it's a matter of fact that he hasn't got any official match playing experience for a good period of time. He was playing social cricket in Zimbabwe since he quit for payment reason and recently didn't play much social cricket also.

I believe fitness is a thing that can be improved if anybody works very hard to achieve that. I became very pleased to watch Brett Lee in full flow at 32 bowling at 95/96 mph. For instance, take into account Jaques Kallis also. I think, he is very fit and strong now. He did a lot of gym work and he bowled at 90 mph in the Champions Trophy and he hits the ball a lot harder nowadays for the effect of T20.

It's a fantastic step taken by Alistair Campbell. I must appreciate. Blignaut is my automatic choice in the team but he must earn it. He should be taken in the team if he is able to proove himself returning in his rhythm in domestic cricket.

There doesn't appear top be much talk of Tinashe Panyangara returning. I would have thought that at 23 he would be a better long term investment.

Blignaut played his last game in 2005 against india i think, or new zealand. And i remeber looking at the speed gun, and he was clocked at 146kph. Now i undestand that its been a long time sice he last played some competatice cricket, but i diupt he's lost too much pace. How fast do you reckon he bowls now ?? Anybody ?? :D
