No T20I in Zimbabwe!!!!!!

Post by tawac »

Its interesting to note that since the introduction of T20I, Zimbabwe is yet to host a game. I wonder how long we are going to wait. Else where we have only played a hand full of matches. We have had two countries touring Zimbabwe in 2009 but no such game was organised. What could the problem be?

In the just end tour of the U19 Pakistan team our young lads played two games which is quite interesting considering the our main side isnt getting any game time. With the T20I World Cup next year how are we going to prepare? Will the Metropolitan Tournament be enough? The team also needs to get used to playing together especially considering the fast nature of the the T20 game. I think this really defeats the whole meaning of World Cup considerng that outside the World Cup teams like Zimbabwe are not getting any action at all. There is talk of the game being made part of the Olympics (I hope it will be introduced by the time Rio hosts the games 2016) perhaps this will increase the number of games being played.

Would love to see plenty of T20 on Zimbabwean soil so that more of the school lads carve for the national dress.
The name Eagles already participated in Champions league and everybody's favourite underdog T&T is sporting Zimbabwean colours. next year i would love to see Tuskers and Rhinos defeating all in Champ's league

I would love nothing better then to come to zimbabwe and watch a T20i at one whichever ground it is played at. I was wondering which cricket ground in zimbabwe you all think is the best to watch cricket at? I am in Australia and am keen to find out which ground is best. I read on brmtaylor.com that triangle has a really good ground and facilities but is to far away to have a cricket played there.

There was only ever one international played at Triangle, and that was way back in Rhodesian times. It's simply too far out of the way to be a practical venue. I hear the humidity can be a killer down that part of the country, too, although I've never been down there.

Queen's Sports Club is usually rated as the best ground for atmosphere. Harare Sports Club lost something when they did away with Castle Corner, I think...

When did that happen? still remember when Taibu made his debut in controversial tri-series at india, it was his sister who was most vocal
at C&C and constantly motivated young Tibbly who came to bat at 8th or 9th position and attacked few boundaries.
What about Keg & Maidens? Is it still there or was it part of C & C?

I believe the Keg & Maiden's still there. Problem with that is that it's indoors - Castle Corner was outside. A crowd of boozy Zimbabweans at the edge of the field could do wonders for creating some noise & atmosphere, but now they've moved inside and you don't see so much of them.

I did see an article somewhere once lamenting Castle Corner's passing - I'll have to try and dig it up again...

I dont remember much about the Castle Corner guess I was a kid to give much attention to that but the KEG is very much up and running. There is another spot though at Harare Sports Club but its behind the terraces and other the way. I have notices that the crowd at Harare Sports Club is mainly made you of the younger generation just like to composition of the team. The older folk have lost heart perhaps. Maybe as the current generation grows up so to will the game in Zimbabwe.
