Taibu comes out of retirement

Post by jontym87 »

Right im back now its been a while due to academic commitments had to shelve ZimCricket Talk Admin duties for a while. Right let me start by giving you the good news. The good news is TATENDA TAIBU yes i mean TAIBU has come out of retirement and is back to playing cricket again this summer. The bad news is that he wont be playing in Zimbabwe or for Zimbabwe. Taibu has been snapped up by Hightown St Mary’s in the MI Dental Liverpool Competition this season.

Interesting.

The way I see it, this is whats happening;

He is slowly easing his way into cricket again.
or,
He's making some sort of play to live in Britain.

The thing with wily little energizer bunny types like Taibu though is once they start to slow down athletically, they can really unravel and lose the plot. So I hope he has the lightning footwork and co-ordination still. Thats why he was a good gloveman. He dropped his fair share of catches, but his athleticism overshadowed the technical issues.

He has been out of the game for 5 years, so even in a fully fledged comeback, sadly, this is only going to be a 20 minute gig that will tie us to the next world cup only.
5 years is a very long time so I hope he still has the mental ability and technical ability to bat as well.

How does Taibu make a living?
He is meant to be a pqastor with no concern for the material world but I think thats been overstated. H e was in Bangladesh last year on 'business interests' so he is doing something with his life financially.
I still cant swallow that he retired purely to attend church more. He could do alot more for the Eagle Tabernacle church by maintaining a high profile.

I think theres alot to the Taibu story we just simply dont know about.

Good news he is back though, despite the above.

Furthermore, I've seen people comment on the zimcricket talks page that this dental league isnt exactly the highest quality of cricket, very much lower level club cricket.

This could lend support to the idea he's just out to keep fit and have a bit of fun. Which lends further credence to my theory that its either part of a ploy or a consequence of a ploy to resettle in the U.K.

Doing a Googly here with a third unanswered post on the trot....

A bit of research has shown that it was Taibu who approached the club through an online forum.

Tatenda Taibu in his Zimbabwe days (Photo by Graham Crouch/Getty Images)

What began as a suspected Christmas hoax has ended with former Zimbabwe Test skipper Tatenda Taibu agreeing to play for Hightown St Mary’s in the MI Dental Liverpool Competition this season.

Providing the appropriate registration process is completed and Sandy Lane dries out over the next week, the 32-year-old wicketkeeper-batsman should make his debut at home to Alder next Saturday.

However, such an outcome seemed rather unlikely to Hightown’s Nick Gordon when his online appeal for young players over the festive period was answered by someone saying he was a former Test player.

I think it is worth more for ZC to ensure our talented young player stick around. Going after Taibu, Jarvis, Ireland, etc feels llike chasing shadows at this point. If they decide to comeback, great. But we shouldn't work overtime chasing these guys.

Jarvis is only 27, not sure if we can classify him as a shadow just yet.

Alot of players dont make there first class debut before then in other developed countries.
