Not so long ago, we had no problems in our bowling department. Even after Jarivs, Meth, Querl etc had vanished, but we still managed to have good stock of fast bowlers and spinners in the country. Nyumbu, Mushangwe, Mupariwa, Chinouyo, Garwe etc all looked promising, and were dominating in the domestic matches. Our national team had Chatara, Panny, Vitori, Shingi and Tiripano who were all quality bowlers. Pakistan, Bangladesh and NZ had problems facing our bowling at that time. It's sad most of these guys got injured and haven't still recovered. Jarivs, Chatara and Vitori were our main front-line bowlers whom we couldn't have afforded to lose so early. Now we are left with no strike bowlers( except Cremer ). I think it's because we haven't been playing much domestic games, also it could be that our fast bowlers are low in confidence and don't have any energy to uplift their games post injury/new bowling action. It's now time for us to completely focus on new generation bowlers. Neville, Jongwe, Wellington, Chisoro, Tiripano etc have done enough to take over the national duty.

The problem with our bowlers like Chatara and Jongwe is that they were drunkards who paid no attention to their fitness alas Chatara injured. Considering how tall most of our bowlers are, it's shocking that they bowl less than 130kph. It all sums up to poor fitness levels and most probably bad diets.

And you seem to be forgetting the fact that those teams whom we used to trouble with the balls have improved themselves which is what happens with experience. NZ were small boys when Jarvis was bowling to them but are today troubling RSA. Who are now the small boys.

Despite all this yes Zimbabwe has always had a bowling problem mostly bcoz of bad selection. How can a test nation rely on medium pacers to lead their bowling attack? A no. Of quicker bowlers have slipped thru our domestic leagues

Not to mention that watermelon has seen them eating up large at KFC.

Chinouyo, Garwe, Neville, Jongwe, Wellington, Chisoro, Tiripano.......ALL THESE BOWLERS ARE RUBBISH, THEY NEVER LOOK TALENTED OR PROMISHING ANY TIME, EXCEPT IN THE WORST FOUR FRANCHISE LESS COMPETATIVE DOMESTIC CRICKET, THATS FILLED WITH SOME USELESS PLAYERS .

NYUMBU,CHINOUYA, TIRIPANO LICKED HUNDRED OF RUNS EACH INNINGS AGAINST THE KIWIS RECENTLY, THEY WERE SMASHED BRUTALLY BY THE KIWIS.

THERE IS NO ONE AT PRESENT IN THE ZIMBABWE TEAM WHO LOOKS THREATENING WITH THE BOWL.

QUERL, JARVIS, METH WERE GREAT, THEY HAD THE PACE & VARIATION TO TROUBLE THE BATSMAN

THE PROBLEM IS ALL TALENTED BOWLERS ARE RUNNING AWAY FROM ZIMBABWE JARVIS, METH, QUERL, ANTHONY IRELAND, BOWIE, DEPLOCK, DEVEN BELL WERE THE ONES WHO HAD TALENTS WITH THE BOWL & HAD LOT OF PACE THAT COULD MAKE BATSMAN GUESSING.

I See this comment bandied about a lot but I don't really buy it.
Yes- height helps a fast bowler.

But fast bowling isn't a given coincidence of height.

There are many tall people who couldn't crack 100 who are tall.

im 6'4 and I cant bowl anywhere near it.


To be honest, batting can be taught, you don't need athleticism, just good coaching, mental strength and tenacity.

Spining is a skill refined in a way that ping pong players do, fielding is also a practice makes perfect thing.

Fast bowling? I think you need the numbers. You need a pool of more than just 1000 or whatever Zimbabwe have to produce more than a tiny handful of 130+.

Look at someone like Mitch Starc.
A few weeks ago it occurred to me that he jumps forward about 2 to 2.5m forward everytime he comes to the bowling crease. I'd never noticed it before and I remember thinking how difficult that would be to keep doing ball in,ball out unless you were a genetic freak.

Tino Best is really short, a pocket rocket. A solid ball of muscle and no-one is comfortable against him.

I would agree with the genetics . Just a lack of a twictch muscle that aids a person to be quick.
