Chamu Chibabha has done OK job opening the batting for Zim. He looks pretty solid against the good bowling attack in seaming conditions. He is somewhat more consistent than other players, but doesn't seem to convert his 20-30s to a big hundred. Also, he is not comfortable with the spinners. Hamilton, on the other hand looks good in the sub-continents and plays like a world class player against associates and weaker oppositions. When it comes to teams like NZ, India etc he simply can't get things right. Vusi,Raza and Chari are terrible openers whom we can't rely on any day. I am starting to think of all the players Chamu is the best man( most consistent) for us in t-20s and ODIs, and Tino in test matches. We should continue with Hami as their other opening partner. After Hami, a slightly finer option would be to pick Raza at the top( maybe only in t-20s). PJ looks aggressive and score runs quickly, but he is still to be tested. Also, we need someone like him lower down the innings along with Chigumbura in shorter formats. Our top batting order has had a big void since Taylor left , and I don't know for how long we would be struggling at the top. We still need to find their substitutes if we are to be competitive.

Pretty much, yep. Apart from Tino in tests no one else has shown any true opening qualities. It is well past time to stop worrying about specialist openers and just pick our best six or seven batsmen every game. There are no special openers in FC cricket averaging anywhere near what is required. That young Mpofu bloke may improve but he isn't there yet. Chari is a long way off still.

Pick the players averaging 40 in FC cricket or as close as we can manage and go from there.

Chamu does have a knack of somehow just moving along and not getting out early but it is frustrating how he scores between 30 and 60 then gets out when the spinners get on..he needs to work on that with the batting coach. he just looks like a player who is playing in 3rd gear even with his bowling.if he worked harder he could bowl a lot faster but just seems to have limited his pace for control. a typical Zimbabwean problem yet he can genuinely move the ball away from right handers

Are the rumours true that Daniel Jakiel has been working on his batting?
A Mawoyo / Jakiel opening combination is pretty mouthwatering.

It's incredible to think that this time last year Jakiel was just a potential death bowling option in T20 and now he's in the mix to open the batting in Tests.

Why are players like chibhabha & chigs considered for national duty if they are all rounders who don't bowl.

Chigumbura is happy to bowl, but the slithering Streak and bumbling Cremer are seeking to marginalise and humiliate him.
