I've just seen another ex Zimbo on cricinfo who seems to be doing ok- Adam Rouse. Never heard of him prior to stumbling across his name.
Also just reread Bavuma Rabada's post about Cartwright never havIng a chance of making it- hope he chokes, wherever he is.
Also saw Ryan Higgins made 300 for Middlesex Two's.
Muddy you are a confused guy. Do you think these players would be doing well in Zim? Let me answer for you, the answer is a resounding no! They are a product of systems that develop talented players. It's not done by having a few biased trials games once a year, or by making a one off donation of some crap cricket equipment to an obscure gold mining area in the middle of Middle Earth. They are identified early and get fantastic coaching and opportunities and play a huge number of games, pitting strength against strength. That's what's required in 20 schools and at provincial level. In ZC there's no resources because they've been stolen, no genuine will (token bullshit, yes) and no ability to create international caliber players that can compete on the world stage. I'm assuming you've heard of Sam Curran? Do you know that when he was here in Zim he was only the first change seamer in the national age group sides? That means there were better bowlers than him here. Do you know who they are? I will bet you don't and neither do the rest of the world, yet Sam has become a household name because he went to a place that picked him up for his bowling more than his batting. Imagine a couple of those bowlers had had the coaching and opportunities Sam has been given? What's stopped ZC developing those guys? It's not sanctions or drought, it's just a bunch of incompetent people, nothing else.

Its not a question about who gave you alot of opportunityin & enhanced your skills but of natonal pride..
any of these foreign based players can play for Zimbabwe In the off season ..
look at Sean Ervine & Kyle Jarvis they'll never play for England but they distance themselves from Zimbabwe selection
:W: :W:

I'm really going to let you answer now. And why do you think they distance themselves?

Cartwright is on the verge of a hundred (99*) at the end of day's play for Aus A vs Ind A.

Considering potential, competition where he is achieving his numbers, and longevity of career, getting this one guy to play for Zim at this point is probably equivalent to getting Sean Ervine + BRM Taylor + Kyle Jarvis I guess...

Neil Johnson & Murray Goodwin got an opportunity play abroad but still came back to Zimbabwe & played for the Chervons
Ray Price;Heath Streak ; Andy & Grant Flower were world class player & they played for Zimbabwe..
National Pride has been lost due politics ..
The regime NEEDS to give us the game so that ordinary Zimbabweans can enjoy it again..

That had less to do with national pride than being given the opportunity to play international cricket. They were cricketers that were close to being good enough to playing for another country but knew they were not going to get the opportunity and so were persuaded to come back to Zim to play here. I will guarantee they did not make those decisions lightly. Firstly I'm certain they were guaranteed they would be selected, and secondly they would have to be guaranteed salary and living conditions because I know they were doing pretty well where they already were. In order to make the move they would have to be 100% sure that the people in charge here would be honourable and do exactly as they promised and what their contracts stipulated. The current administration have proven time and again their incompetence, their underhandedness and..... well I've simply run out of negative superlatives. National pride is nice but it doesn't put food on the table, nor is it that easy when you know, by virtue of the colour of your skin, that you are a third class citizen.
