Retires from international cricket

This would have contributed to his decision- a surprise payday that he probably couldn't afford to pass up, almost like a benefit series.

And perhaps that money helps him start something that he's been planning. This is NZ, who are organised and pay half decently. Our lads are on a hiding to nothing. Raza has probably made a few dollars with his T20 gigs.

I’d be curious to know what kind of money he’s on in NZ.
One thing a lot of people don’t understand about NZ is generally speaking, the pay is pretty low.
There is a good reason 20% of their population has migrated to Australia. Despite having a nice country in every other metric.
Pay is maybe 30% lower on average.

Ya its anyone's guess- I'm going with about 8k a month. The difference is your money generally goes a lot further in those countries. Here you burn through 4-5k just trying to survive and live a vaguely agreeable existence.
4k a month in those countries and you're paying off a mortgage on your own place, have a decent car or two, kids are at good schools, there's savings in that as well.
I don't know what he's getting for this BBL, but it will be anywhere from 50k-150k. That's years of savings rolled into a month.

Surprising that he got a lucrative deal a this stage of his career. Good for him. For me, he is a typical Zimbo who knows how to use the aggressive field setting in tests to his advantage by going after the bowling, but has made lesser impact as a batsman in ODIs and T20Is (kind of rich man's PJ Moor ). But overall, the mark he leaves is significant. He has made telling contributions to NZ cricket. One of the actual success stories of leaving Zim to forge a meaningful international career elsewhere. There aren't many of those. Best wishes to him with the next stage too. May be he can give Zim cricket a crack as a 39 year old later?

I think the Grandhomme family was extremely pissed with ZC back in the day.
Kind of like a ‘get fucked I’m out and fuck you I’ll do a shit on your lawn on the way out’ thing.
That’s my memory from 15 years ago so don’t quote me, but not a stretch to believe.
