Zimbabwe after return to test cricket has been all loss except one famous win against Pakistan in 2013. For a few year now, Zimbabwe " four team "domestic cricket is being in question, wheather it be Dave Whatmore who expressed " Zimbabwe Domestic Set up are not to the mark ", Hamilton Masakadza in Dhaka Premiere League also questioned about " Domestic Cricket being not competative ". Ex Zimbabwe Captain Brendan Taylor in recent Zimbabwe v/s Sri Lanka Test Sereis as a commentator, also expressed concern about Zimbabwe Test side.

After Tatenda Taibu, took over as the Zimbabwe conveyor of selectors, performers of domestic cricket got chance in the A games against South Africa A, Pakistan A & Sri Lankan Develolment XI. Players like Brian Chari, Carl Mumba, Terasai Musakanda emerged as a fine talent that resulted them debut in Test & Odis. Other notable performers were C.Kunje, Victor Nayuchi. Gerald Alisani was also impressive.

Its a great time now, to introduce 8 teams domestic cricket four day, odi & t20. With the international fixtures over, Zimbabwe domestic cricket needs to start with some tough competition as few seniors are out of form for past few sereis, new bunches slowly comming off, proved they are quite skilled.

Recently, Zimbabwe had a local ZPL tournament with 8 teams with nearly 170 players pool.

It will be great to see if, Zimbabwe Cricket board removes ban over old teams like MANICALAND , MIDLANDS , SOUTHERN ROCKS & THE CFX ACADEMY and add them with Rhinos, Eagles, Tuskers & Mountaineers, comprising total of 8 teams and divide those pool of 170 players who played ZPL for various clubs along with the Under 19s to these 8 teams, making the domestic cricket more exciting & competative.

As the board said, this time domestic season will be longer, playing with just 4 teams everytime will look boring, and also talents can't come off, spreading the game by increasing teams will look the set up exciting and games could result in thrillers, with amateur new talents gaining experience and becoming future of Zimbabwe National Cricket Team

Im an expansionist and would want to see at most 2 additional teams. One a Capital Based Franchise based on the large player pool and facilities and the other being the Southern rocks for the growth of the game and the development that is going on in the province. I would then make it a rule that each franchise should play at least one under 19 player and 1 academy player to ensure we have a steady stream of players coming through. Teams not meeting these goals will be punished through a reduced monthly budget say $1000 for each game they don't field the kids. This i believe will allow talent that is suppressed because of ageing veterans privilege right to play and allow for some game time for our under 19s. The ZPL i think is a good concept as its a competition that brings in the best amateurs from the best clubs in the country thus a place to refine and separate the rubbish from the prospects. The competition will see 2 under 19 players involved as a must and i beleive it should run parralell with the Provincial system where guys who may not be picked will play for their clubs in the competition and where guys can modify and tweak things in their game

These teams should initially be involved in the short formats for 3 years and then be integrated into the Logan cup. This will allow for the building up of resources and structures to sustain such an expansion.

White players will have a serious role to play. There are two slots at the Eagles, 4 to 6 slots at the Rhinos and 4 to 5 slots at the Tuskers so no need to worry. They just need to make themselves available
