Mutumbami...

Having watched a full series of Chari's struggles and Musakanda's promise in the one match, I just wanted to put it here that Mutumbami lies somewhere in between on a scale of Chari to Musakanda in terms of talent and ability, and probably leaning a bit more towards Musakanda than Chari (while, for example, Maruma is leaning more towards Chari - or might have crossed Chari on his side of the scale too). On that count alone, Mutumbami is not someone to be discarded, and should actually be invested in as a batsman at the very least. Hope he has a very good domestic season and stakes claim again...

Its time to make mutumbami an all rounder he surely can't keep wicket... So he should try bowling

it really pains me when i read such posts, What has
mutumbami done ? his whole international career
is a disgrace, what promise has he ever shown ?
how many games do you want to give him ? .. move
on please give gumbie a chance, murray is way better
This kind of thinking pains me thats why we still have
elton, sibanda, waller playing in our franchise insteas
of younger better players. these players should be
discarded if progress is to occur @ zc.. give mashinge,
ives, matigimu, mavhuta game time instead of wasting
time chapungu, shingi, nyathi, muzarabani.. I wonder
how selection for franchise is done, the useless get contracts
whilst the better players are sent home. Matigimu
can crack 140 without a specialist bowling coach, a short
lazy run up you can imagine what he can do given the
opportunity & time but no we would rather play muzarabani
and his younger brother, diplock a natural swinger of
the ball ? we have wk problems @ the moment but we
all know murray has the cleanest pair of hands in the
country @ the moment, scored 50s against against afghan
u19s & our national team batsmen are destroyed by a 17
year old afghan rashid khan.. scored 123 not out against
bangladesh u19 vs the likes of mehedi hassan who destroyed
england not so long ago, top scored for zim in sa t20 , only 18 years old
but no give chakabva, mutumbami game time until they
are 50 years thenmourn the white kids are not commited
they leave.. Nick welch right now is waiting for a call up
from any zim franchise suprisingly no1 cares

Gumbie is how old...
My question is that what happens to the national contracted players who everyone want dropped or ban for national duty..

@sixes fan, I'm not rooting for automatic selection of Mutumbami or anything like that. Just an attempt at fair evaluation of where he stands when you consider the likes of Maruma, Chari, Waller of the current form, etc (hint: Ahead of them) who have got recent game time. And If you observe, I'm talking about Richie the batsman, not the keeper. So, he is not going to block any keeper with what I'm hoping for, i.e., "Richie the batsman should score runs this season to stake claim for the batsman's role". This "younger guys should get opportunities" business is fine, and I understand that the likes of Vusi / Waller / Chigs / Nyathi potentially blocking the raise of the younger lot, but you also need these guys to guide them in an ideal world (but I definitely don't see how a Chigumbura can motivate a fellow youngster on field though). But even in this aspect, Mutumbami the batsman, who was a late bloomer in the first place, is still 27! Hardly old to be thrown away!

Well said. Crimson. Richmond simply needs to score and score big runs "during this bumper season and being at the current National Team Coaches beloved franchise gives him the best opportunity to do so. Richmond is a firm believer that he is good enough to be there but he now needs to apply himself and play loads more cricket to improve his average to at least +35 in FC cricket. I look back at Richmonds career its clear that he is a fighter and best suited at fire fighting and rebuilding an innings as was the case when he was at the Rocks where he batted in the top 5 which brought him to national selection and that resolve to fight is what he needs to do as he in my opninon for the keeper batsman role he is behind Reggi Chikabva with PJ further behind Gumbi in fourth PJ should purely be a batsman batting at 4.The problem we have with our current crop of players is complacency and laziness after making it into the national team. All the proceses and routines that got them there somehow go out the window and thus a bunch of overweight under performers.

Richmond needs some tons and some stumpings. He also seems to miss Southern Rocks.

what I think is clear is that PJ is not the solution for our wicketkeeper/batsman role and I think it will eventually affect his confidence. at 27 Richmond can still prove himself but he just never got going at national level..he needs momentum.sort of like what PJ has now.
I also always wonder how we can say an 18 year old who has no franchise experience can have the safest hands in the country.thats an insult if you ask me. let Murray play first class cricket first like what Gumbie is doing right now..u19 cricket is nowhere near senior level.
another name who never comes up is Forster Mutizwa. only think I watched one national game when he played but he averages 30 in 17 ODIs and 39.5 at first class level over 80 games.why does he never get a chance? it baffles me actually considering our lack of options.surely he deserves one

Mutizwa has certainly upset someone. He has had very few chances comparatively.

all im saying is richmond wont change, you will have
the same conversation and thread for the next 2 years
like has been done before, this is not new to anyone
here so the fact is he is not good enough never was never
will. saw how stupid he is during that t20 world cup
cant think , was running out his players in the india series
and couldnt reach double figures in any match. his batting
was so awkward you would think he is the tail ender
i dont know about you but i have seen enough . About
murray im not saying get him in the national team im implying
he should have a franchise and should be playing first
class matches other than handirisi & pj or waller as wk
mutizwa, mutumbami included.. & yes he has the best
pair of hands in the country thats why he is amazing
to watch against spin as a batsman .. you really have
to see him playing, the sky is the limit for his talent &
all im saying is if you spend more time looking the other
way then poof ges gone
