Musakanda - Burl Could be a better Openning Stand

Post by The Robot »

Zimbabwe at present facing lots of problem in finding openning stands in all formats of the game. Hamilton Masakadza & Vusi Sibanda, were one of the best & successful openning stands for Zimbabwe for some time now, but at present both are out of form, with Sibanda dropped for his poor performance. Team Management has tried lot of openning combination that includes Chibhabha - Chari, Masakadza - Chari, Chibhabha - Moor, Chibhabha - Masakadza, Masakadza - Moor, but all failed and its not working now, opponents getting early wickets as a result middle order getting exposed much early in the gsme

After trying so much combination, one more combination Zimbabwe should try and they might get sucess is by developing Masakanda & Burl as openning batsman in A games and later in Zimbabwe National Team depending on their success.

Musakanda's innings of 36 against Sri Lanka showed that the man has class and can bat aggressively. He can bat both sensibily and at top gear with good hitting ability and making powerplays useful for Zimbabwe. Both Musakanda & Burl prefer batting at number 3 and have a experience facing the new ball in domestic cricket and have out with success, number 3 is such a spot that it becomes equivalent to openning spot once opponent get early wickets. Musakanda 's Aggression followed by Burl's sensible play could develop proper openning stand for Zimbabwe, & most important thing is bowlers hates to bowl left hand - right hand combinations as they find difficult to adjust.

Zimbabwe Middle order is much strong & impact , with Ervine, Williams, Raza, Moor & Masakadza should bat at number 4 when bowl gets slightly older, as he is one of the star batsman in Zimbabwe, followed by Cremer & Chisoro. therefore its better to try youths at the top, it might bring success as both Burl & Musakanda seems to have lot of talent in them.

They haven't done anything great to be the part of Zimbabwe again. Musakanda is new sensation, whereas Burl Deserve Chances as he was one step ahead of his debut, but got injured

Have so much faith in Recalls, then Neil Jhonson & Grant Flower would be the best option :)

You guys know nothing. Piet Rinke was our finest opener. He could clear the boundary and at least got out quickly if he was playing like crap. Our guys these days play like crap but also manage to take up a lot of deliveries.

Chris Mpofu and Taurai Muzarabani - lure the opposition into a false sense of security by sending out the walking wickets first?

All these years, all these number of coaches, not one in the last 5-6 years has thought of sending a "hit out or get out" kind of guy at the top just to change things up a bit. The whole of the Sri Lankan success story from rags to riches is dependant on that decision of sending Sanath J and Kaluwitharana at the top. Why did we never try Dabengwa / Chigumbura / Vitori or some other random guy when we could have? We had nothing to lose.

The closest thing we had to an aggressive opening combo was when Masakadza and Raza were paired together, which was actually not going all that bad, before they decided to change it again.

Well we have opened in a Test match with Maruma, that was pretty random.

And there was that time we sent Utseya out to open to take the shine off too.
