Possible to play For Zimbabwe

Post by PJMoor »

Doing my HSC, this year, 16 currently, play club cricket for my area(Bankstown)

HS: 154 Runs 1235 Matches 34 Avg 36ish, have stopped since my HSC, is a bit more important than playing cricket, I also bowl Offspin, but lets not get into that...So
Maybe I`ll go to zimbabwe for a year and try to enter the national squad, If i Hopefully, get into the A-team/FC I`ll be staying for two to three more years, to make it to the natl, squad....So what are your thoughts
I have two problems
1.No Zimbabwean Citizen Ship
2.Will it be difficult, I heard that corruption is very prominent, I`ll be bringing around about 5-6k when I do visit Zimb, hopefully in 2017/2018,is that enough to you know, let the Coaches/Selectors feast at KFC

I am from Australia BTW, and was scouted to play for Emerging U19 NSW Squad, but I doubt I will be able to have a real shot at playing for Australia

International crickey isn't like the Big Bash, you can't just interchange sides and jerseys season to season.

If you want to play for Zimbabwe that's fine, but you'll need to sit the residency period of qualifying for a country for four years (7 in England) although Sikander Raza has personally told me Zimbabwe qualification is higher than four years due to some internal bullshit.

And internal bullshit in everyday life is something you'll need to put up with for that time period. You need a certain level of streetwise and hustle to make it in Zimbabwe. That may take a while to develop.

Now that said, if you were born in Zimbabwe, this is a different story altogether. If you are on the emerging NSW radar then I guarantee you'll be close to age group national honours. When you finish your HSC go over there and have yourself one hell of a life experience!

If you're Aboriginal by descent with no trace of Ndebele genes it will also speed up the process

I dont know which of you saw that gene trace thing floating around on FB? That should be a game changer, if I can prove black ancestry will I become indigenous? Amongst many surprising links they deiscovered that quite a high percentage of Scots had Aboriginal genes, which has thrown conventional thinking out the window because they always thought that's the Aboriginals were isolated in Australia and that their genome would be pure. There's plenty we don't know.

1235 matches at 16 years of age equates to about 125 matches a year, assuming you started at 6.

I think only Keith Dabengwa could claim to have played that many matches.

There will be a tough learning curve for you with cultural expectations both in and out of cricket. But if you are up for it I am with the Dogg. Get over the HSC, get over there and see if you can make a way. ZCF will be cheering you on.
