Zimbabwean participation in the Afghan league

Looks like Afghans are popularizing their OD league that Sikandar Raza played in last year. This year, they have made it franchise based with a lot of takers. Not clear whether it would be 50 over or 20 over competitions.

Latest news being Hamilton Masakadza is bought by one of the teams, Amo Sharks, in the auction, for $20,000. The series runs between 18th to 28th July.

$10,000 each for Sean Williams, Sikandar Raza and Solomon Mire to go with $20,000 for Hamilton Masakadza. Looks like these 4 are the only one who found takers.

Surely this is not being played in Afghanistan? Surely Williams, Masakadza and Mire wouldn't willingly play cricket in a war zone for just $20k?

Raza I can understand, he's not a target because of his skin colour. But the other guys can't exactly blend in if they take a stroll around Kabul.

Yes, it is happening in Afghanistan. Pretty crazy really to be travelling there, but might be a safer place than Pakistan (but would they ensure that much safety though?). It is possible that they are comparing it to their BD experience. Or some of the BD players and Raza might have given them the required confidence. High risk for sure.

Shows how bad things are with ZC that these guys would be happy to play in Kabul but not Kwekwe.

Are any BD players playing in this league? Would only be domestic guys if so, but even then cant imagine the BCB would give them NOCs. dont thinks the league would pay 20K to domestic no namers and even if that would be worth the risks with BPL around the corner.

Looks like Elton isn't considered for these kind of leagues anymore.. this actually shows the development of Afghanistan cricket. They clearly have more resources than us and a larger player pool. They were always going to overtake us.

Good to see Mire getting a gig too..this could be the beginning of many more t20 gigs if he is playing at 100%.

They've been picked. I don't think they should risk it. And I am hoping they don't get the NOC from the BCB.

The BCB president has even come out saying Bangladesh won't even be looking to replace the cancelled Pakistan series in order to give some rest to the players. The players apparently have asked the BCB for a break after a long season (still shorter than any other top side!). So lets see what happens.
