Lead up to 1st ODI v Scotland

No one seems to care about this series, Cricinfo haven't even put up a page for the series or a preview. Even here on the forum there is little chatter about it .....

Scotland are a dangerous side here in their own conditions, I'm not sure what their squad will be but Josh Davey is a dangerous bowler and hitter down the order plus Kyle Koetzer is a class act up the order. Also Cross, Berrington & the returning Captain Mommsen add to a dangerous batting lineup .....

Our lineup will be interesting especially the batting lineup, I can't ever remember us having so much competition for spots in the batting and with 10 batsman in the squad it's anyone's guess who Streak picks. In saying this quantity doesn't always turn into quality and when it comes to Zimbabwe a collapse is always on the cards. I feel we don't have that 'elite' batsman who can be relied on like BRMT or Andy Flower, people may say Craig Ervine suits the bill but he's coming off a bad series v Afghanistan like the rest of the boys and for me He's still got a ways to go to be put in the same sentence as BRMT & Flower ....

Our bowling is a little more straight forward Chatara, Mpofu & Ngarava are coming off good series against Afghanistan and Cremer will lead the side and bowl his leggies. There is the thought Zimbabwe may play 8 batsman and rely on the part bowling of Hami, Chamu, Williams, Raza & Mire to make up the overs ......

Didn't Mommsen retire due to frustration about lack of fixtures?

Has he come back?

I thought Scotland were strong, and would really give ZIM a run forr their money. But they got beaten pretty badly by Namibia today.

No Josh Davey so maybe we won't have to deal with him ?

Them losing to Namibia at home has probably made everybody more relaxed than after the beat Sri Lanka. I'm not going to take anything away from them but all things being equal we should win both games. We have to accept that afghanistan is not a weak team. They even beat the West Indies away in the last week or so but there can be no excuse against Scotland because overall we are the better team.

I would suggest we go with experience in the first with the batting lineup and then put the youngsters in for the second game if any of the senior guys fail. Raza lived there for a while so the conditions should be ok for him. The likes of Hami and Chamu could do well in non-spinning conditions too.

For the first game I would go with

Mire
Chamu
Hami
Ervine
Williams
PJ
Waller
Cremer
Ngarava
Chatara
Mpofu

Don't expect a walk over. Scotland are dangerous but very much hit or miss.

Not streaming due to no money for it. They tend to post highlights after each games on their social media platforms.

I'll be at the game tomorrow so can't wait!

Scotland's side is likely to be:

K.Coetzer (C)
M.Cross (WK)
C.MacLeod
R.Berrington
P.Mommsen
C.De Lange (VC)
C.Wallace
S.Sharif
M.Watt
A.Evans
C.Sole or S.Whittingham

Plenty of options, if Zim play to their potential they should win.

The competition for places in the starting line up is quite healthy in the zim camp. I think Waller has been very consistent leading up to this.

Apparently the pitch and size of ground should lead to high scoring affair ......
