Interesting to read the test batting averages from the last two years, the top ten are as follows:
C Ervine - 54.90
Sikandar Raza - 37.50
S Williams - 34.40
PJ Moor - 33.75
G Cremer - 28.44
T Mawoyo - 26.83
C Chibhabha - 25.75
D Tiripano - 24.87
M Waller - 24.00
B Chari - 18.66
You can certainly see why we needed Taylor back, Ervine is really the only one averaging anything world class.

ZIM have only played 5 Tests in that span. You need at least 20 innings to be statistically significant.
I would say a 30+ average means a guy knows how to bat, but he may not necessarily be a good batsmen. Again context is key. Hamilton who is 34 and has played 20+ Tests would be a mediocre batsman if he averaged 30. But Musakanda or Moor or Williams who have very few innings can't be dismissed as quickly because they can quickly bump their average up past 40 or even 50.
35+ means you are a decent batsman, and 40+ means you are world class in the sense that you would find a spot on almost any team. Obviously 50+ is reserved for the truly elite batsmen.

Think Mumba may have picked up some form of injury. He isn't even playing for the Rising Stars in the first Logan Cup round.
