What's more important ??

What's more important a wicket keeper who bats really well or a keeper who takes all his chances ??

Unfortunately for Zimbabwe they don't seem to have either but in recent times it seems Streak is more worried about the keeping side of a wicket keeper batsman.

PJ Moor has done very well with the bat but his keeping has been pretty poor, so Regis was brought in as he is seen as a superior keeper. In recent times Nyasha Mayavo has been brought into the squad despite having a first class average of 18, are clear sign Streak is favouring keeping over batting.

What's more important in your opinion ? and who would you have as keeper in the Test side?

Look I think if you are going to be put in the squad because you are the better keeper then you have to take all the chances. You can't drop a couple and then not score any runs. If Mayavo is the better keeper then he might as well get a game because Regis isn't scoring runs and he is dropping a couple every game. His average is now 25. He has been on a downward spiral for a while.

For me Mutizwa should be the test keeper because he has to be one of the most inform batsmen in the country. PJ would be my second choice because he will at least get into the 30s. Even Richmond is currently in better form than Regis.

Streak needs to start being fair to everybody otherwise it could come back to haunt him . The gamble that paid off so far in tests was Mire. But the 8-3 isn't working because his number 8 and 7 are failing. Bobby for all the entertainment he gave us isnt picking up wickets( he is obviously the guy who took Panyangaras place in the national setup). People are going to start talking soon in those higher circles about the injustice to Foster.

The keeping is much more important.

A keeper who averages 10 with the bat but never misses a chance vs a keeper who averages 30 with the bat but misses 2 chances per game. Even assuming 30 runs per wicket a bad keeper turns 300 into 360.

Regis was better with the gloves and looks superior to Richmond and Moor at the moment. No idea about Mutizwa's hands. If Mayavo never misses one then he can have a go but his number of stumpings is low for someone keeping to the spinners he has been.

What's more important is to play Hami at 3

What's more important is to pick specialist players for specialist position

What's more important is to hand captaincy to a player who can actually captain

What's more important is to make sure Hami bowls

What's more important is to drop poor players

Mutizwa hasn't been keeping for Mountaineers. Sauramba seems to be doing the job for now. Foster has been getting the runs in the domestic games which means he gets a look in as a batsman but that doesn't seem to be happening.

Non performing players. Waller should be back in FC cricket.

I’m defended Regis stoutly up to this point but he seems to learn nothing from his errors with that bat, considering his keeping is still not 100% I’m not sure he’s the man who should be keeping in the Boxing Day Test.

Might be a chance to give Moor or Mutizwa the gloves as there will probably be more seam bowling than spin so the need for a good keeper to spin isn’t as high.

If I’m Mutizwa I’m demanding the gloves in every game

Don't think Moor is up to it. He can have Waller's batting slot.

I think Waller’s spot will go to Tiripano or someone, they’ll need another seamer

Move Mazaladza to 3, even though he's just scored a mammoth 147 opening the batting; genius 8-)

In the modern day its a combination of both, ie a composite.

Use Bangladesh as an example. Mushfiqur is at best an average WK and that means his baseline is that he's one of the worst WK in the world. To add to it, he's only 5'3" which means he fails to collect a lot of wides and byes other WK would. We have two other WK competing, Liton Das and Nurul Hasan. LKD averages 50 in first class cricket and Nurul averages 40+, but Nurul has a lot more stumpings and catches per innings.

So it comes down to a judgement call. LKD's +10 first class average is only 25% more than Nurul's, but Nurul is the better WK.

But say you have a great WK who averages 20 and then one who is merely decent with the gloves but he averages 30. The difference is still just 10 runs, same as above. But thats a greater % difference and it would probably make sense to take the guy who averages 30, beacuse a 20 avg in first class cricket is pretty poor, even for a WK who would bat 7 or 8.
