Why did Ed Rainsford play so few internationals?

The ship has long since sailed but I think it's an interesting question, given the recent Mutizwa topic. His stats are impeccable and he retired a long time before his prime (last played an international 7 years ago at just 25 years old!). What happened?

He's much simpler than Mutizwa.

Kyle Jarvis got picked instead and used that opportunity to go to England instead.

If Rainsford had stuck around he would have been picked just like Panyangara because both Jarvis and Vitori "left" swiftly for various reasons.

Alan Butcher said it was his lack of pace and penetration

I tend to remember him having a few troubles with injury towards the end of his international career.

On a semi related note, I was rather surprised to see Rainsford pop up as a commentator for the recent Australia v Bangladesh test series.

I'd believe Butcher over you

standard Hhm answer to anything 'blame a nearest white guy'

News flash mate even after KJ went to England Rainsford wasn't selected

I'm probably the biggest ed Rainsford fan here, my first few posts in the forum were about getting him back into the side. Always thought he was much like Shingi or Hami or as someone said Mutizwa as he was always being left out for guys like Mpofu.

IMO he's a great commentator and he'll go very far.

Simple, Rainsford was the Daniel Sturridge of Zimbabwe Cricket. He was always injured.

Was he though ?

My memory might be failing me on his early career and injuries but I remember his last year playing for the Rhinos he topped the wicket takers chart but was over looked for the tour of the Caribbean ( KJ, Mpofu, Meth & Chatara preferred )

Once the that tour was over he was again over looked for the Bangladesh series, the India ODI’s then the Pakistan series. At that point he retired.

I think the fact he left a tour of the Caribbean in 2006 ( i think ) to take up a club contract in England left a dirty taste in the mouths of the ZC officials.
