In this article Streak defends Lance claiming they both had given the players game plans of how to take on the seamers but the players execution let them down.

He also dismissed the call to ‘liven up’ our pitches at home suggesting we will continue to prepare pitches that suit our bowlers

Can't blame him. Most teams suck dick overseas. I wouldn't get over-critical of ZIM's performance in a day night 4-dayer against one of the best bowling attacks in the game.

80 bad overs don't make a team.

Makes a reputation though , not many people here in Aus have seen us play and now they have they don’t want to again... unless they want to have a laugh.
The Zimbabwe Cricket team have found Ebola in one of their members, but they're not concerned because they have also found Ebatsmen and Efielda!

Im with bligzz. I can't buy that argument. We always speak of how we need to play more games and against top opposition, and then we get the chance and perform like that, it's no wonder the big teams will be reluctant to play us. If we are not going to provide any reasonable test to these teams, they won't want to play.

Players do not work their socks off to get put on a field to play sub par standard and have the game made look like a joke.

Hard to comment since we’re not in squad so we can’t see what he’s telling them, but one thing I find it hard to understand is how international batsman these days don’t know how to leave the ball outside off stump.

When the bowling is tough just play what’s full and on your pads, weather the storm until the bad ball start coming.
This so much. It does not take a batting coach to be able to tell these guys to be sensible.

Having said that, we do not need to be in the squad to know what is said. Even if Lance told them to hold the bat upside down, surely these guys are smart enough to know what to be doing. Yes, Lance must take some responsibility, but the players need to take most of the blame here.

As to answer ZIMDOGGY, batting coaches for test teams:

Australia: Graeme Hick
England: Mark Ramprakash
Bangladesh: vacant
India: Sanjay Bangard, Overseas batting consultant: Rahul Dravid
South Africa: Dale Benkenstein
New Zealand: Craig Mcmillan
Sri Lanka: Thilan Samaraweera
Pakistan: Grant Flower
West Indies: Toby Radford
Wow, so two things I have noticed here.

Of the nine countries, 3 batting coaches are Zimbabweans
So 36 percent of international batting coaches are Zimbabwean and we have klusener.

Secondly, most of those batting coaches either struggled to make the national team during their day or wouldn’t make the team today they are coaching if they were still playing.

We always knew that Zimbabwe produced a decent quality of coach. A failed administration has meant that this is another area we suffer in. This does though pose questions of whether our guys actually listen and try to learn, or just go out and do their own thing.

As in football, it is proven that sometimes the guys who were not so successful in playing, prove to be better in coaching.

As BRMT would say, no one in AUS is going to be paying attention to a SA-ZIM match when 90,000 people are the G for an Ashes Test. And even if they did, the result is not surprising. Are the Nielson ratings available? Would interesting to see. The Windies just got their teeth kicked in on the tour of NZ...Aussies are NOT having a laugh at the Windies for the same 2 reasons. No one cares about either team in Australia and no would be surprised the Windies suck.

Besides, what is the alternative? Only play teams you are guaranteed to look good against for neutral viewers who dont even care?

Reputations are only made one of two ways. Over long stretches of time or via a surprising and massive performance in a short space lf time (SL winning the 96 WC fo example).

Thats a different point. What the teams and admin believe is wholly different from what a bunch of drunk fans feel. The admins primary focus in the modern era is financial. Of secondary importance is reputation and reputation can't change in one night because if it could, every whore could become a saint after just 24 hours of going dick-free.

Progress is far more gradual. This game should not ruin the progress made over the SL and WI tours. Now, should the team get thoroughly outclassed at the World Cup Qualifiers, thats a different story. But getting well beaten by a champion side on their turf in totally alien conditions (first DN game for ZIM) is not the same thing.

I the idea of us playing more tests away from Home was one I liked because it would improve our players so much compared to just playing at home.

But playing a 3 day warm up game then 1 Test which lasted less than 2 days won’t help. We need proper tours with minimum 2 warm up games and 2 tests minimum, otherwise it’s pointless and we’ll just get pumped.

Couldn't we have played another 2-day test vs SA with the remaining days?

It would, but unfortunately with the current FTP setup, no one wants to invite us because of our generally poor performances.

That SL tour (which we were lucky to get that one test in the first place) and our decent performance was probably the catalyst to getting this SA test. Another decent performance would have opened more doors. We lost 16 wickets in the daytime!

Lance is 100% safe. It all really hinges on the World Cup qualifiers.
