[ Poll ] What is Zim's strongest format?

Post by brmtaylor.com admin »

We usually seem to put on a decent show in Tests. The South African pink ball match aside... we've done reasonably well of late. The WI draw, running SL close. We are in pole position in this match, hopefully we don't let it slip.

Test matches without a doubt. We really should play more tests than we do.

Test matches all the way. We have cricketers with limited ability, but guys who can occupy the crease when needed. Our bowlers are similar, hence why Jarvis has been so successful in county cricket Lancashire; he bowls a test length and moves the ball both ways at about 78/80mph. That's all you need to do. This is equally why he was so poor in ODI cricket, as he bowled a length that was very hittable. Since he's come back, mind, he's improved dramatically.

Yes looking at our most recent Tests, when played in conditions that suit us we can compete and really should/could have won some of them

Sri Lanka in Colombo - Set a record chase for Sri Lanka but a combination of missed chances, bad umpiring & puzzling bowling changes (or lack there of) killed us

West Indies 1st Test - Skittled them for 220 but then blew it with the bat throwing away wickets with dumb shots to give away a 1st innings lead, a chase of 300 would have been easy on that pitch as batting got easier the longer the game went

West Indies 2nd Test - Not sure if we would have won it but we had them on the ropes when Raza ran through them, but some dumb DRS referrals earlier left us with none left when Raza had Holder plumb lbw, the rest is history as Holder and Dowrich took the game away.

Now we're in a similar position lets not throw it away with a 2nd innings collapse.

Probably tests, and I think Zimbabwe can do well in ODIs too if they play with some intent. Zimbabwe are making too many mistakes in LOIs, they lose wickets, they lose momentum very easily and never try to counterattack or try something out of the box and if they are on top and the opposition counterattacks they panic very easily and start leaking runs.

Zimbabwe still have got the talent, grooming part is simply not there. Hopefully Rajput will do well and in near future gets his team, like a bowling and batting coach to start with. Zim are also missing a big hitting allrounder like Andy Blignaut at No.7 or 8.

We perhaps have a greater chance of winning an individual ODI, but at a genuine competitiveness level it is tests.
