I have completely blanked on the solid domestic batsman who nearly played for Zimbabwe a few years back. Was a white guy, possibly born in South Africa? He was called into the national team squad but never got play and then disappeared from the scene.

Stephen 'Baby Shanks' Trenchard.
Someone else here, either Googly or Ward, mentioned he was very aggressive on the field and may have stormed out of the game. Something along those lines.
He seems pretty average, but like most white guys in the setup, was starting to improve rapidly, probably PJ Moor like in ability.
You going to pick him in the draft?

Yeah, Trenchard it was. Whatever happened to him? Seems odd that he disappeared just as he was on the cusp of a break-through.

My memory was very hazy, but this is what I recall.
He was rising up rapidly, certain for a call up, already played As.
Disappeared mysteriously.
Ward/googly/some other nigga then mentioned he was ultra competitive in the field and very emotional, stormed out.
Given he was a good player, it was assumed he would return but didn't.
Then someone else reiterated he was a prickly character and may or may not have burnt a bridge. Genuinely can't remember.
I wish he stayed.
He could have been very much a stalwart,at best an Ervine, more likely a Waller, or one of the guys who gets selected, fails and regurgitated every so often.

He had a bust-up with his coach; I think he was negligent with his training or something like that, and walked out when he was dropped from the team, if I remember that correctly. His record was quite good, but Dave Houghton didn't really rate him as being genuine international class.
