International cricket will survive in Asia for sure. This years World Cup will show that excitement in the ODI format still exists. Hopefully the Champions Trophy does the same.

I think teams like WI and SA will be harder hit due to poor management of the boards. Bangladesh will be saved by our players being crap at T20 and being undervalued apart from that as well.

I think international cricket will only exist for World Cups and a handful of bilateral series involving the big three. Everything else will be a steady of diet of IPL-owned T20 cricket. The big question is how will new players be developed and come through the system? Will there still be domestic cricket? Will there be feeder T20 leagues?
Good point Eugene,

Are these Indian billionaire IPL owners going to get down to the local cricket grounds here in Australia on a Saturday morning to lay out the witches hats and hurl some throw downs at the next gen?

If the BCCI and the IPL owners are successful in taking the worlds best talent away from their countries, they’ll ultimately be cutting their food source off at the roots.

Ferreira, Stubbs and Brevis should be in the SA T20 team ASAP. How Bavuma who didn't didn't get picked this tournament opens for SA will remain a mystery. I don't even think ZC have shown that level of incompetence.

The crowds are big. There is interest overall because of the IPL owners I guess. It might just work. Other countries will be watching closely at how they pulled this off

I don't know how people can not see the long franchise contracts coming. That will be the end of cricket as we know it. Kids like Brevis actually do not need central contracts as things stand.

It's going to be the IPL owners opening up leagues across the world and extending the IPL season at the same time. If the World Cup in America has huge crowds then best believe the T20 league that's opened there plus the IPL will be the end of "national team" cricket as we know it.
I think everyone can see what's happening mate, it's more to the fact that no one knows how to stop it.

The power of the NOC is diminishing very quickly, at some point there's going to be loads of players just proceeding to commit to these 12-month contracts without them. I think that's why NZ have let their players forgo a central contract and essentially 'pick and choose' when they play for the Blackcaps, because ultimately they know if pressed into a choice, the players will take the money and run.

One way the ICC could try to deter players from committing to these franchises is to schedule more Test cricket. The majority of players are cricket tragics and love test cricket like we do, but for Trent Boult is he really going to forgo the riches of t20 money for a measly 5-6 Tests a year? Maybe of the ICC helped fund more test cricket for the nations outside of the Big 3, this could help keep more talent in the game.

The only potential solution is if national boards start paying people a salary similar to what the IPL and these various leagues pay. But most boards can't afford that unless the ICC splits their revenue evenly from one big pot. Of course the BCCI won't allow it, but thats the only solution.

The issue is that in order for it to be a spectacle all the international stars need to be in each tournament. If there are too many tournaments on offer they will pick and choose and as soon as a few guys make themselves unavailable that tournament won't sell.
It takes the smaller nations off the map completely.
SA should have made room for 3 or 4 of our players in this tournament.

Googly makes a good point, the BBL in Australia is really struggling now because the Australian internationals rarely play and the foreign imports aren't cream of the crop. The stadiums are mostly empty. The SA20 seems to be a step ahead so far.

Ya they need to beat England and doesn't look close.
How weird to have this ODI in the middle of their T20.
Need to get Roy

I don't think they will qualify googly. It could mean an opening for SL, WI or Ireland and quite astonishingly West Indies appear to have the best chance of sneaking through.

SL will have to beat NZ in NZ 2-1 to get ahead of the WI
IRE will have to beat BAN in BAN 2-1 to get ahead of the WI

Both those above options are unlikely.

RSA will have to win at least one game against ENG and then beat the Dutch 2-0 to get ahead of the WI.
