With Mickey Arthur out of the Sri Lanka job after the Windies series, looks like Grant will be out of work. That massive experience he has had with Pakistan and Sri Lanka will surely need to be roped back in, even as head coach.
Mickey is really a waste at Derbyshire. One of the best coaches in the circuit rn. Drastically fixed up SL and Pak cricket
One of the most highly respected international coaches in the world going to.....the worst county in England. It’s certainly an odd one.

He’s replacing Houghton there of course.

I can't believe that Sri Lanka have let him go to be honest, he has already worked wonders for them. The development of Wanindu Hasaranga has been frightningly quick, when he debuted in the test series against SA I thought he was absolutely dreadful but fair play to him he has proven to be the real deal (atleast in T20 cricket) I don't see how anyone else will do a better job with SL than Mickey Arthur and we may see a very Zimbabwe like SL board collapse quite soon.

Mickey Arthur going to Derbyshire makes sense to me, It's a team with resources but no real figurehead to direct them and no real long term plan as most of the time the second any players show any long term form they get moved on, how on earth they've managed to keep Leus du Plooy is an absolute wonder imo. But he gives them direction and also a reason for players to sign for the county, especially Australian, South African, Pakistani and Sri Lankan players.

What this means for Grant Flower however is another matter. The obvious answer considering his relationship with Arthur is that he will also go and join Derbyshire but how on earth Derbyshire afford both of them would be strange so could potentially either leave him open to head coaching opportunities or batting consultancy roles in a more freelance model such as his brother is doing with head coaching.

I'm equally surprised at Mickey's omission. In the recently concluded T20 WC, Sri Lanka looked like a much much improved outfit and a team of the future. They shouldn't have let mickey go.

Of course he is. With no international fixtures, we apparently don’t need him anywhere near our setup for a few months.

He’s still picking up a full time monthly salary from ZC though...

Fucking looter he is

Is Mickey Athur too expensive for Zimcricket to hire? Its a travesty that we have to make do with a clearly subpar coach when a coach of Mickey's calibre is available. Plus with our close proximity to SA, he could coach Zim based in South Africa..hell, we had Rajput as an India-based Zimbabwe coach for years. Is Grant Flower really the ideal coach for ZWE? Granted he was a great batsman what does his coaching resume look like?

Not sure how good Grant actually is tbh. Our batting improved a bit but not too much. It did improve though and Ig it wouldve been hard with the language barrier. Pakistan also improved with Babar coming through. Mickey is the best though. Gets fielding and fitness up. Also an excellent man manager according to Dimuth. All the players love him. He gets rid of 'lazy players' too like Umar Akmal. Bhanuka Rajapaskhe at the start was at odds with Mickey publically but improved himself and ended up praising Mickey when he left.
