Namibia is in GroupA of the qualifying event in place of Zimbabwe, in other words Zimbabwe gifted their spot to Namibia in the T20 World Cup Qualifying Event.Zimbabwe got banned for few months due to government's direct intervention in the ZC board despite knowing such kind of rule made by the ICC for its members.

The funny factor is that Zim returned to international cricket after ban for just few months, no investigation took place, culprits were not punished, instead Zimbabwe missed another ICC Event which could effect them heavily as participation in World events matters.

Would love to see Papua New Guinea progress. In with a real chance playing in that group imo

As for Zimbabwe, it's more the players that will suffer from not being able to play and gain experience. Missing out on around 15 T20I matches.

Ah! It's ok for Zimbabwe. At least they got plenty of cricket this year but other than a win here and there the results leave a lot to be desired.

Zimbabwe will be playing the next T20 WC Qualifiers next year in February, so let's hope for the best.

The funny factor is that Zim returned to international cricket after ban for just few months, no investigation took place, culprits were not punished, instead Zimbabwe missed another ICC Event which could effect them heavily as participation in World events matters.

I understand you are a new forum member but if the above leaves you confused, you may need a brief history lesson in Zimbabwe cricket. I urge you to start with the wikipedia page "Zimbabwe cricket crisis" which gives a background to the tension at that time & how Zimbabwe cricket reached its, arguably, lowest point in 2005.
Zimbabwe heavily relied on ICC funds to exist as well as tours by India. But ZC accrued great debt & had loan(s) with banks at huge interest rates & where ZC board members were directors. The 2005/06 Logan Cup was not held, Zimbabwe withdrew from the international scene & players never received payments on time. (Brendan Taylor complained last season of this).
Added to this, the grand poobah of the ICC, Malcolm Speed, did a fact finding tour of Zimbabwe & he was probably shown a happy & united organisation. The Zimbabwean representative on the ICC board was Peter Chingoka. Speed reported to the ICC of mismanagement but not corruption. He suggested further action.
Speed got dumped from his role in the ICC. His autobiography states something to the effect when Chingoka had to present the ZC case to the ICC, "he must be a very influential man".
The ICC held the stance that Zimbabwean matters should be carried out by Zimbabwe but they did filter payments instead of giving them lump sums.
Now, rumors abound about corruption, links between ICC & the ZC loans/banks, money laundering, a whole host of things.
At this time, India was an emerging administrative force & wanted to break the traditional stranglehold of England & Australia at the ICC. India relied heavily on the votes of the lesser affluent nations(eg Zimbabwe) to get their agenda through. And no doubt, gave favours back.
So, in short, ZC has been in this decline. ICC doesn't intervene. Player unrest is a constant, especially relating to pay.
I've missed many aspects & the timeline may not be perfect, so please be lenient with any criticism of facts. This was just an overview. But no investigations & no punishments are pretty much the normal procedure.
I'm from Australia & there was a Zimbabwean forum member called Googly. He and others gave great insight into normal life in Zimbabwe. I complain that cricinfo can't get team lists right & Googly would post about electricity restrictions, police raids & arrests, road blockages, food shortages. A great leveller top one's problems. And it is happening in a naturally wealthy & democratic country.
Googly stated something to effect that the way things work in Africa is different to the rest of the world. And not to expect outcomes overseas to occur in Africa. It resonated with me.
