Top teams from subcontinent sides once launched T20 league for their development both in game as well as money. Now the associate teams like Canada, Nepal, UAE, USA are starting their own league bringing foreign players to develop as cricket nations.

Zimbabwe should try to launch their own T20 league by offering foreign players, once ZC had Stanbic Bank T20 that included star foreign players, they should rethink about this concept as the T20 league at present playing major role in developing talents, an unknown quanity becoming an overnight star. T20 leagues now are definately future for growth of any cricket nations.
Part of the huge debt we had came from that stanbic T20. We just simply can't afford it. The local economy is dead. You need big sponsors to do that, not the board. It's a problem people ignore but it has contributed heavily to our demise. "Franchise" cricket is technically supposed to have created a financial model which need minimal input from ZC but there just simply isn't enough money around. ZC has to pay for everything. Even the NPL

Nepal GDP in 2021, 2.89% Zimbabwe 3.9 %. Zimbabwe has got mining, tobacco industries with quite sound agriculture and foresty whereas Nepal has got nothing except tourism still they can arrange this sort of tournaments with nothing big achievement in the game. Same goes with war hit Afghans, with zero peace they were able to conduct quite glamourous T20 tournament. They cant bring high cost foreign players but still they have brought quite familar foreign players who takes part in T20 tournaments worldwide

Its surprising Zimbabwe such a peaceful nation no such threat of terrorism exist, a proud nation in cricket with all their achievement still the board cant arrange a quality domestic T20 tournament by offering foreign players. Govt has zero role in developing the game. Its not the debt its lack of administration that costing this team in developing the game
Nepal dont have the costs. They dont have high salaried professionals.
Also they get sponsors.
Sponsors in zimbabwe are very aware of ZCs reputation and dont give them money.
In the 2018 coup attempt, Ellman brown and the other guy had sponsors they planned to bring along.
Credible sponsors wont deal with ZC.

2 international experienced, 2 ex Zimbo / Zim by birth ( UK, SA, AUS, NZ, any other nation based ) in each franchise will be enough to hold a quality T20 domestic tournament
Cricket isn't the most popular sport in the Zimbabwe. Football/Soccer is. The football association doesn't pay for domestic competitions. In fact they have 2 platinum mines, 2 City councils and 2 billion dollar companies sponsoring about a third of the teams. That's where all the real sponsorship money goes and why ZC really wants to grow the game into the whole country.

At the moment cricket is played by very few people. Less than 1000 people in a country of 15 million if I could guess correctly. Its popular because its the sport we are actually "relatively" good at and are a top 15 team. It's also popular because the image it gives off is that "they already have money".

There also were quite a few financial scandals in the Chingoka days. No big sponsors want to be associated with that. In their prime guys like Croco would pay about 300k a year whilst it cost around 80k a year to get a corporate box at some stage. These days they would be lucky to get anywhere near that

If ZC has got financial problems they should seat with Kenya Cricket, Namibia and any African associate nation and arrange a quality domestic T20 tournament, which can benefit all the nations like upcomming European T20 League set up by the boards of Ireland, Netherlands and Scotland

T20 league are future for development of the game and arranging it in combined way could develop a strong bond between the boards

What i also found absurd is you have to pay every player who plays club cricket.
The random whos playing his first game to fill in gets paid 5 bucks or something to play?
everyehere else the players themselves pay fees
Agreed, but you have to consider the wider economic situation. Some (a lot?) of club players can’t afford to pay fees or subs, or if they have to then they simply wouldn’t play and would not bother with cricket. There are plenty of club players who definitely can afford it but then there are those that can’t.

It is a stupid system but again really there’s no alternative in Zim. Similarly how are some of these guys going to buy equipment or even afford to travel to the ground if they aren’t getting a small stipend? Especially youngsters.

We have too few people playing club cricket already so if they are getting a few dollars for playing then we can’t really remove that.

This problem is deeper than ZC unfortunately.
Then you'd think they would accept Old Georgian's request to join Vigne Cup? They also have a really nice ground. What they actually don't want to risk is a few whites dominating the club scene, that would be unbearable  They need Takashinga to remain at the top of the shit pile.
If ZC can't get a tiny amount of corporate sponsorship to improve club cricket then you gotta wonder
They'd accept the money directly to disburse as they see fit but it would be unacceptable for a corporate to manage their own sponsorship directly.

I see there's also a cricket pitch being laid at Wingate Golf Course, I think Doug Marillier may be behind it. It will be for a social league I'm sure.

I’m sure playing Kenyan domestic sides and forming a bond with their board will really bolster Zim Cricket Uleh

Better to begin development playing smaller side then top sides likes Afghans began hitting Zimbabwe. Low ranked side should'nt complain what they get, instead they should take the opportunity and prove a point that they deserve to play top sides.

In T20 there is no weak side any team can beat strong side.Recently Nambians showed by beating Zimbabwe who had some international experienced in the side

Haha I’ve posted the exact same thing about OG and the Vigne cup quite a few times on the forum. It is ridiculous that they are kept out of it.

Regarding Wingate I think it’s a pretty small ground and is going to be some sort of training facility for an academy I believe.

Honestly if we had a competent board and administration (we don’t. So this whole conversation is futile really) , the focus should be on restoring cricket to the schools that already have some facilities. That should be number 1 priority. We don’t need 1000 schools playing it and we don’t need to be taking the game to random peasant villages or whatever. There’s existing schools with cricketing heritage and overgrown abandoned facilities. Sort them out and have maybe 15 or 20 schools playing regular cricket on their facilities. Start with the basics.

A good competitive school system, a proper club system (continue the NPL and try to strengthen and lengthen the provincial club comps) should be the priority at the moment.

People who think the priority should be on some glamorous ZIMSMASH T20 SUPER DOOPER ENTERTAINMENT SHOW LEAGUE with 100 foreign stars and fireworks are living in fantasy land.

While we’re at it I’ll have a mansion, a super car, a foreign passport, a private jet and 100 hookers please.
