Pro50 Championship Thread 2021-22

Post by secretzimbo »

Zimbabwe heads into 50-over mode for the next couple of months, with The Pro50 starting in the morning.

The first double round (11th & 13th November) sees;

Tuskers Vs Eagles @ Bulawayo Athletic Club
Rhinos Vs Southern Rocks @ Kwekwe Sports Club

These are the first franchise games in any format to take place outside of Harare for a couple of years.

Full fixtures/venues here;
https://www.espncricinfo.com/series/pro ... e-fixtures

Double round-robin with a grand final on January 7th.

Defending champions are the mighty Rhinos, who won their first ever silverware in this competition last season.

Let's hope we have some under 19 guys and maybe even a few overseas players

I don't recall a hotter week in Zim, it's been hell. Tete was expecting 48 degrees this week, lowveld areas are mid 40's.
It would indicate that rain is due and many games being rained off, but we know this, it has strangely occurred every year for the last hundred years we've been playing the bulk of our cricket over Dec and January :lol:

No real surprises with the one day squads. Nice to see Sean Williams back though

We joke about fixtures ‘probably changing’ - but day 1?!?! Tuskers and Eagles are out in Mutare for some reason :lol: :lol: apparently there’s no turf at BAC. Although they managed to play a club game there the other day :lol:

Nice to see Sean back anyway. Burl Mavuta and Campbell all in the team for Rhinos. Kwekwe must be a dust bowl. Probable considering the recent hot weather

Ngarava seems to be bowling well. Double wicket maiden including the 'prized' wicket

What's the track like at mutare? Chivanga and ngarava getting Williams and ervine for ducks. Both caught behind.
Might indicate a bit of pace and bounce

Yeah possibly. It’s so long since any professional cricket was played there I suppose nobody knows.

At a guess I would expect all these non-Harare grounds are a bit of a mess and therefore favourable for bowling. Probably low-scoring matches, but we’ll see.

Forecast for the next week or two is dreadful anyway! ☔️
