Rain. With the forecast, looks like it will be difficult to complete today.

Nice to see Wes looking good. Kaitano looks imperious at the moment.

The squad picks itself really. Shame none of the fringe players were given a chance. Whats the point of pulling people into a 'bio-secure' for a week and then not giving them a game?

Depends how many people we take on tour, but maybe the only decision is who takes the reserve batsman slot - Kaia, Kasuza or Maruma? And who misses out out of Chivanga, Jongwe and Tiripano? Or maybe we'll just take a bigger squad because of Covid or whatever.

Kaitano
Chakabva
Ervine
Wes
Williams
Shumba
Raza
Burl
Jongwe
Blessing
Ngarava

We have basically lost 2 batsmen with BT and Myers gone. This has really affected our bench strength. Can't think of any reserve batsmen who I have faith in

Pretty sure this will be the eleven but with Wellington in place of one of Raza/Burl.

1) kaitano
2) Chakhabva
3) ervine
4) williams
5) madhevere
6) shumba or burl both if we play with 8 batters
7) raza

Looks pretty solid to me against Lanka
Gotta play with 8 batters and three seamers ( two seamers, and a " specialist spinner" if the pitch suits slow bowlers), with fragile top order batters up to now, Zimbabwe needs to bat deep to have a chance against the Lankans. In 2017, on that successful tour, they used 8 batters and Cremer was the number 9.

It’s really annoyed me, the point of this series was to pick the best team to tour out of the 30. The northern side only played 12 out of the 15 :x

Everyone should have got at least 2 games each.

Nyauchi didn’t even get a game. To me the only reason would be that he was the player who has covid.

Jongwe will be nowhere near my XI, his batting has gone downhill and his bowling is also not that good, regularly relies on his slow deliveries. He was clearly the liability or weak-link against Bangladesh in the bowling department. Instead I would have Chatara who can move the ball both ways even if his pace has slowed.

So you are willing to sacrifice both Burl and Raza, two players who can both bat and bowl and even win matches for you, for Wellington? Seems like you have got very high opinion of Jongwe.

I hear your point. But he actually had the best bowling figures in 2 of the 3 ODI's Vs Bangladesh. He won us games throughout last year.

He may be out of form but his international stats remain very good by Zimbo standards.

He's the sort of guy who responds to being dropped and getting a rocket up his ass though so I wouldn't necessarily be against dropping him. I'm just not convinced Chatara is an overwhelmingly better option. And certainly not Tiripano.

Not necessarily. I'd have one of them. I'm just not sure we ever need both of Raza and Burl in the same team, especially if they are going to bat at low as 7 and 8? Seems like a luxury, having both.

I don't think Jongwe or Wellington have done anything to lose their places yet. And I think we all know the selectors will pick them both as well, rightly or wrongly.
