20 20 squad for world cup qualifiers

Post by Donald »

This format seriously scares me in regards to zimbabwe. We have no real proven power hitters since chigumburas retirement.

Do we abandon the youth policy and have one last hurrah with zhuwayo?

Think Kaitano can be a good 20/20 player myself. His weak link is world quality leg spin. Cant be an abundance of that with the associates.

Bowling im less worried about. Ngarava blessing and wellington are among our best in this format.

Very concerning, I think this is probably our worst format atm. We really should be okay in the Qualifiers though, as long as we have some decent preparation. Remember Rajput was hired specifically because he was supposed to be a T20 mastermind?

Hopefully they pick all of Ervine, Williams and Raza and don't go with the stupid idea of rotating/dropping them in this format again like we did in Ireland last year. Raza has a poor record but should at least be in the squad. Add Regis and we've got some very good and very experienced heads.

Kaitano has only ever played two official T20 games in his life. Shows how much disdain we give this format ffs. No idea if he has the game for this format. I guess we'll see during our glorious 6-day competition next month.

Zhuwao?!?! Absolutely not, no thanks.

Bowling is alright. The two big quicks and Masakadza are certainties in the first eleven. You know I love Jongwe. But hopefully someone like Evans has a good domestic T20 and reconsiders his UK deal. He might be an option. I think guys like Masuku and Nyauchi are better red-ball bowlers, but we'll see how they do in the domestics.

Burl is on thin ice. He's had an under par season for sure. Has to deliver soon.

Wes & Shumba will obviously be in there. If Marumani dominates the domestic T20 again then I'd give him another go, in this format. They'll probably have Madande around the squad again too.

Tbh probably 13 or 14 of the guys in a 15-man T20 squad will be the same as our squad in any other format. We just don't have any T20 specialists., it's our worst format. I'd say there's definitely a chance we fuck it up and don't qualify.

Definitely an open contest for the backup bowler slot and backup batter. Whoever has a couple of good games in the domestic will be right in there.

Will not break the opening partnership which showed some class and played the shorter format with modern approach i,e Marumani & Madhevere. Chakabva as wicket keeper. Middle order as usual Raza, Ervine, Williams, finishing job will be in the hands of Shumba & Burl. Spinners will be W Masakadza & Mavuta ( as leggies or the wrist spinners are creating huge impact in T20 format and it has become an wicket taking option). It will be great if PJ Moor is available

Selectors needs to think alot with bowling. Blessing is only the automatic choice. Chatara is going for lots of runs after his pace has dropped. In domestic T20 will look at Chatara, Jongwe, Jakiel, Ngarava. It will be great if few of the under 19 kids like Falao, Dube and allrounder like Bennet gets chance in domestic T20s if they perform they can add value to the national squad and make Zim bowling looks strong

Selector should give more importance to allrounders as they provide depth in batting and also provide the captains bowling options when regular bowlers goes for runs.
