NZ Warm Up Match Thread

On the eve of the warm up match who do you think of the 15 member squad will feature, who do you think needs it more?

Personally I'd like to see, how far Cremer has come, I'd like a resolution of the 3rd seam slot (I am in no doubt we need Meth for control, and if Shingi is to come in it would be for Jarvis or Vitori, whom as Boundary points are a settled pair). I'd like Hami to get time in the middle opening (actually don't see why he didn't do so for the Goats, as management knew he would be opening, once Vusi's fate was sealed...don't these guys get paid to do this?), Taibu needs some time in the middle, Mutizwa needs to find his feet before debut, Taylor I think if it came to could rest, Waller is neither here nor there, so give him a run too, as I dont think Matsi is in the frame for the Test.

1. Mawoyo 2. Hami 3. Mutizwa 4. Taibu 5. Waller/Matsi 6.Chakabva 7. Chigs 8. Vitori/Jarvis 9. Shingi 10.Meth 11. Cremer

with the final XI being:

1. Mawoyo 2. Hami 3. TAYLOR 4. Waller 5. Taibu 6. Mutizwa 7. Chigs 8. Vitori 9. Meth/Shingi 10.Jarvis 11. PRICE

I more or less agree, but I think Taibu should sit this one out together with Taylor, Price & Jarvis. Even a king pair wouldn't prevent him from being the keeper, so even if he's not match fit, Matsi should play alongside Forster & Regis instead. That'll help to see at what level they are, and the confort of knowing that whoever handles the conditions better, gets to play. Even if Jarvis fails, he'll play, while Vitori being the only player who's never toured, should get a feel of the conditions ahead of his expected role with the new ball. This will also provide an opportunity to get Cremer out of the picture. I sense a mitigating disaster whenever he lurks around our Test team right now, he should come back 2013-14! Waller should bat higher up the order for this one, face the new ball a bit. Unlike the others, he's never been tested, so let's stop shielding him, that's part of the reason whay Craig failed!

Am I right in saying this is not actually a first class match?

If that is the case, Zim will probably field 13 or even all 15, so that all batsmen and bowlers get a run out. I really dislike these sort of games, but I guess it makes sense when you only have 1 short warm up game...

One of my pet hates...First Class matches should be a minimum of FOUR days....three days for four innings is plain stupid

If it's played in the right spirit it can be okay. For example the recent England vs ICC Associate XI game - sporting declarations made that quite interesting.

Obviously it is a bit short, but the actual result of a warm up game is not important. Better that it has first class status, and is therefore a proper, competitive 11-a-side game, rather than the glorified net that you sometimes see when the touring side gives the whole party a bit of a run out...
