Test milestones

Post by CrimsonAvenger »

Just saw that Angelo Mathews of SL is about to hit 100 test matches. Then started wondering how many more Sri Lankans might reach this milestone in the future given tests becoming a bit sidelined over time. There is every possibility that guys from big 3 nations might continue to hit 100 tests (specially England), but outside of that, does it look increasingly unlikely?

Those outside of big 3, with 80+ tests and still active are:
Mathews, Azhar Ali, Southee, Williamson, Mushfiq, Karunaratne

Not sure how many of these can make it to 100 and then how many would follow...

Then the thought turned towards Zim. We have only ever had 4 guys with 50+ tests - The Flower brothers, Streak and Campbell. 5 more people in the range of 30-50 tests: Whittall, Hamilton, Carlisle, BT and Olonga.

Will we ever have another Zimbabwean play 50 tests?

Hami and Taylor would have made it without the six year gap. I think it is possible Wes could.

From 05-11 they didn't play a test. If we weren't suspended they'd have likely played 50

Shumba. I dont think Wes because he had some technical issues I cant remember. But any very young batter who is decent should be able to get there

I don't think we're even going to play 50 tests in a 10-15 year period.

Yeah, those two would have for sure if not for the self-imposed suspension followed by the ICC suspension. Took away too much test cricket.

Blessing, Shumba and Wes stand a chance, if at all. But it could very well be a case that none of them make it there too.

I'd honestly be surprised if ZC organise anymore than 1 test a year going forward sadly

And yet the bulk of the franchise cricket is 4 day stuff.

Mathews hits 100 Tests. Could have been much sooner if he was always injured.

I think Mushfiq will reach 100, and probably Tamim too. Shakib will retire before 85 caps.
