Just reading an article in The Weekend Australian titled ‘out of the ashes: The rebirth of Zimbabwe’
Houghton is interviewed and says “he’d like to see English internationals Sam and Ben Curran and county players Mick Welsh and Gary Ballance pull on the red and yellow of their home country”

Looks like poor research by journalists isn’t just restricted to Zim!!
At least they are talking about luring players back though!

Apart from the the Mick Welch misspelling and Ben Curran faux pas, hope Houghton didn't say Sam Curran, otherwise he is delusional

Nicholas Roy Welch is a Zimbabwean cricketer who played for Mashonaland Eagles. After playing domestic cricket in Zimbabwe, he moved to England, signing to play for Leicestershire County Cricket Club in September 2020. In the same month, he also gained UK citizenship

I think Welch and Melton have always been fairly likely/possible.

The Ballance rumour is going strong at the moment too, but I still won’t believe that until I see it though

B Curran is surely quite unlikely? He’s a citizen by descent, not birth. So he can’t hold dual nationality and he’d have to resign his British citizenship to get a Zim passport which is a pretty big and risky life choice right there.

The others were all born here so don’t have that problem.

Nick Welch would be an instant hit especially in the 20 20 matches. .

Mire was born in Harare though.
If you are born in Zim then they allow dual nationality. But if you acquire Zim citizenship by descent/parents then they make you give up your original passport annoyingly.
