Well we will see who's selecting because there's no way he should play next game. Plus Marumani really needs to have a shot, either at the top of the order or middle order.
I'd still open with Burl or even Williams. Our openers are going to continue to struggle. I think Burl is wasted batting so low down.
Problem is Marumani should have played before, if he does get picked he's now going against decent opposition.

Why can't they just let Houghton select? He knows the players, knows what game plan he wants, yet has to wait on what 4 others think is best? Plus whatever they get told to do from upstairs by the pointy shoes brigade. If a selector is not attending every practice how is he deciding who's playing well, what the game plan is etc etc etc

I mean who selects the selectors? Genuine question! They're ex internationals, I accept, but so what? Even if they averaged 40 something, had a couple of hundred international wickets at 28, doesnt mean they have the goods to pick the right players. And they definitely don't have that pedigree. Do they watch every domestic game, do they attend every national practice? Anybody can skim through some stats, and they're not doing that because we'd see a couple of changes.
We've had years of very ordinary selections and the go to plan invariably seems to be don't change a thing.
If I was a selector and I was told who to select by a suit in pointy shoes I'd just take a step back from it.
And if you've got 4 guys actually being paid to select and they're just following orders that stinks. I'm not saying that's the case, but I guess we'll never know.
The coach, assistant coach, batting and bowling coaches are far better equipped to decide who's likely to play well out of the squad. Plus the batting line up and the likely bowling line-up, but that changes according to game situation.

If Regis was purely a batter he'd already be dropped in this format. The problem is we have no other wicketkeepers. Literally no one else. Mutumbami? Mayavo? Eeesh.

Marumani isn't a good keeper. Should be playing as a batter. Get him in for Shumba. As mentioned, he should have had some games against the associates in Bulawayo first. Now we are throwing him in the deep end, and he has 1 game to deliver. That's tough for a 20 year old.

Chivanga should never play international cricket again.

Burl showed today that he isn't a lower order pinch hitter. He tried to accelerate at the end and couldn't! He isn't the guy to forcibly smash everyone for six. In a normal innings (e.g. not a disaster like today) we are usually asking him to come in with 2 overs to go and hit something like 24*(7) and it's just not going to happen 99 times out of 100 with this guy.

He does need to try out higher up the order. He might find a proper role for himself there. And he can't be much worse than Ervine or Chakabva in those positions?

Looks like Ervine might be injured so he might sit out on Tuesday if he doesn't recover.

I've said this so many times, Burl comes in too late, has to pull the trigger and he's got this crap short armed wristy shot across the line that you see too often. He should definitely open.
Ervine is the captain, so that's a tough one, but he's struggling.
Reggie is struggling more and has been for a while.
Burl needs to be 1-3, that's where we will get the most out of him.
And once again Evans deserves an extended run. Not 2 games, everyone else gets dozens, give him 12.

Who are the weak links in the side in 20 20. Im going to start with the weakest.

Chivanga- We were all excited by him and he huffs and puffs a lot but has been distinctly average and expensive. He will be ousted when muzarabani is fit

Ervine- Not a 20 20 player by any stretch of imagination, Has been average and is more a one day test player. If Houghton is serious about raiding the diaspora i would have Nick Welch opening in his place in the world cup.

Chakhabva- Not weakest but close. Extra points for wicket keeping and he has cobbled some uselful fast runs but nothing major against big sides in this format. Maybe Marumani can have a go in shorter formats.

Take Raza's great performances out of the last 7 games and then have another look at who's done well.
