Owen Chirombe has been appointed by the International Cricket Council (ICC) to officiate at the ICC Under - 19 World Cup in Australia, 11 –26 August, 2012.

He will travel to Brisbane a few weeks prior to the tournament in order to attend workshops, pre-series meetings and officiate warm-up matches.

Chirombe, who took up umpiring as a full-time career in 2009 has officiated at a number of overseas tournaments, including the 2005 Under-19 Afro-Asia cup in Sharjah, India and the 2009/10 Under-19 world cup in New Zealand.

"This invitation attests to the calibre of sports administrators that Zimbabwe is able to produce. We are proud of Owen and have every confidence that he will represent us well during this tournament," said ZC spokesperson, Shingai Rhuhwaya.

Apart from the shocker he had when he gave Masakadza out caught down the legside against Bangladesh he has done a decent job. Good to see that his progress is being recognised.
