He's said to be on his way to Zim to play for Rocks in the Pro50 next week, as a local/domestic player.

Source is someone who I think works for Southern Rocks.

Okay, to be clear; the source doesn't actually know for sure, but he's seen the Rocks Squad List and Curran is registered as 'Local', whereas last year he was Overseas and they had to do all the overseas paperwork.

Suggests he is playing as a local and therefore declared himself eligible for Zimbabwe selection.

Hopefully he does play for Zimbabwe

I actually came to have a squiz at the forum to see if there were any news about Curran or someone like Welch, Byrom etc who were on the cards for a return.

Seeing guys like Williams, Ervine, Raza & even Regis getting to 35 or 36, Zimbabwe are going to a real issue once these four all call it quits. Especially if they do it all around the same time.

It’s been spoken about a few years ago, that we might see a few guys return once the old guard retired, as there is only so many ‘big contracts’ available

He has really struggled for Northants this year, been very poor. But hopefully a new life here and the motivation of international selection will spur him on. He's talented for sure, just hasn't quite fulfilled it yet.

with the legacy debt almost paid off excess money should be given to enticing these players on good contracts and ensuring that they are provided for.

I remember in 2004 most players all had nice cars before ZC taking them off them. This was of course during the tenure of Bvute and we al know what happened there

As good as this is, and it IS good, whats his role here?

He is a middle order bits and pieces player right?

The one spot we dont struggle for is middle order bats who do a bit of this and that. Wes, Burl, the big 3, Regis, Munyonga, Milton, Evans and Jongwe.

We need openers, genuine sloggers, spinners and paceman and wickey depth in no particular order.

Ballance is the real big coup and low hanging fruit.

The other one we really need to think about is Regis' successor as a gloveman.

Regis is 35, and in a year or so his agility, and therefore his glovework, is at massive risk of decline, and when it hits, its going to be pretty fast, unless he remains dedicated to his fitness, and even then thats only 2 years extension max.
But it will be harder and harder for him to maintain that, and theres a chance he will:
A) retire
or,
b) Give up the gloves in 1-2 years to focus on his batting. Which is a right he has earned really with his efforts the last 12 months, no doubt hamstrung by glove commitments. The only black batsmen we ever had that has improved with time.

The good news is if ZC wake up to this fact now, they can plan for it. They have a good year at least to prepare.

Schadendorf is the obvious one. He can slot naturally in and be better.
Murray is a never was and the ship has sailed even if he wants it.

One of the bennett boys are a keeper too arent they? That could also be a strong option in 2/3 years.
