Current profession of some fomer Zimbabwean cricketers

Zimbabwe was a very competitive side from the late 90s to early 2000s.Lets have a look at what is the current profession of some former Zimbabwean cricketers who has really contributed in the success of Zimbabwe:

1.Duncan Fletcher (Age 60) > COACH.Duncan Fletcher represented Zimbabwe in 6 ODIs in 1983.He is a high profile coach.In his coaching period,England won the Asheas series in 2005 against Australia.He now works as an adviser of South African cricket.

2.Kevin Curran (Age 49) > COACH,COMMENTATOR.Kevin Curran represented Zimbabwe in 11 ODIs from 1983 to 1987.He was a good player in the English county cricket where he played till 1999.Kevin Curran also coached Zimbabwe from 2005 to 2007.He is now the head of Zimbabwean Cricket Academy.

3.Andy Flower (Age 40) > COACH.Andy Flower represented the national team from 1992 to 2003.He wore the black armband along with Henry Olonga to show the death of democracy in Zimbabwe in the World Cup 2003 and immediately was dismissed from the team.He then joined Essex in the English county cricket and played till 2006.Injury ruled him out in the 2007 season and when he was offered to be the batting coach of England he took it and retired from FC cricket.He is the best batsman of Zimbabwe and once told was the best batsman of the world.He has an average of 51.54 in 63 tests and 35.34 in 213 ODIs.Andy Flower is currently the batting coach of England.

4.Henry Olonga (Age 32) > COMMENTATOR,SINGER.He is the first black player to represent Zimbabwe in the international level.He represented Zimbabwe from 1995 to 2003.He wore black armband along with Andy Flower to show the death of democracy in Zimbabwe in the World Cup 2003 and immediately was dismissed from the team.He was a good fast bowller.In 30 tests he has 68 wickets and in 50 ODIs he has 58 wickets.He was dismissed at the age of 27,so a much of cricket was left in him.He now lives in England where he is a commentator and he has music album called 'Aurelia'.

5.Alistair Campbell (Age 36) > COMMENTATOR.He was a fine batsman of Zimbabwe.He represented Zimbabwe from 1992 to 2003.He announced his retirement at the age of 31 after the World Cup 2003 after being overlooked by the selectors.I think,he could have played for Zimbabwe for some more time.He has a good average 30.50 in 188 ODIs and averages 27.21 in 60 tests.He now lives in Harare and runs Lilfordia Junior School with his father,Iain,a prominent junior coach who has groomed a number of Zimbabwe's cricketers.

6.Neil Johnson(Age 38) > COMMENTATOR.Neil Johnson was one of the finest players of Zimbabwe.He was a left handed opning batsmen of Zimbabwe with a good average of 36.50.He batted in the middle order in the tests.He also opened bowllinf for Zimbabwe too.He represented the national team from 1998 to 2000.Then he went to South Africa and played there in the domestic competition for Natal and Western Province Boland.He was also seen in the English county cricket playing for Leicestashire and Hampshire.He retired from FC cricket in 2004.Now he lives with his family in South Africa.

7.Paul Strang (Age 38) > COACH.He was a fine leg spinner.Strang played 24 Tests and 95 ODIs for Zimbabwe before a chronic muscular injury to his bowling hand ended his career in 2001 at the age of 31.He represented Zimbabwe from 1994 to 2001.In 95 ODIs he has 96 wickets and in 24 tests he has 70 wickets with a 10 wicket haul in a match.He played for Kent and Nottinghamshire in the English County Cricket till 2003 to gather experience.He then went to New Zealand.He is now the high performance coach of Auckland.

8.Bryan Strang (Age 36) > COACH,BUSINESSMAN.He represented Zimbabwe from 1995 to 2001.In 26 tests he has 56 wickets and in 49 ODIs he has 46 wickets.He left out from the team in 2001 for a career threatening injury.In 2004 he was banned by ZCU for telling that Zimbabwe shouldnt host World Cup 2003 matches for the political situation.But he did a comeback in 2005 and played for Zimbabwe A side but wasnt picked for the national side telling that he was too old.But he lost his pace a bit and was bowlling in a short run up.He retired from FC cricket in 2006 for a fractured arm.He now coaches in Harare's St George's College and opened his new business too.But I amnt sure abt his current situation.Bryan Strang is the younger brother of Paul Strang.

9.Eddo Brandes (Age 45) > COACH.Brandes represented Zimbabwe from 1992 to 1999.In 59 ODIs he has 70 wickets and in 10 tests he has 26 wickets.Eddo Brandes achieved world fame in 1996-97 as the chicken farmer who took a hat-trick and twice bowled Zimbabwe to one-day wins over England. He is also remembered his bowlling in Zimbabwe's shock World Cup victory over England at Albury in 1992.He now works as a coach in Queensland in Australia.

10.Trevor Gripper (Age 33) > BUSINESSMAN.Gripper was a right handed opening batsman who made 60 in his debute test in the 2nd innings against Australia.He represented Zimbabwe from 1999 to 2004.In 10 tests he averages 21.86 and in 8 ODIs he averages 10.His international career came to an end when he involved himself with the 14 rebel players of Zimbabwe in 2004.Gripper went to play a season in English league cricket for Cranleigh Cricket Club where he topped the batting average(55.74) before retiring.Gripper now runs a business in Zimbabwe and plays cricket in for fun in a social league in Harare with former Zimbabwean players.Trevor Gripper is the son of former Rhodesian captain Ray Gripper.

11.Guy Whittal (Age 36) > BUSINESSMAN.Whittal was a good batting allrounder.He represented Zimbabwe from 1993 to 2003.In 46 tests he averages 29.42 with a double-century 203* and averages 22.54 in 147 ODIs.He has 51 test wickets and 88 ODI wickets.He has played three World Cup for Zimbabwe.He announced his retirement after World Cup 2003 at the age of 31 to concentrate on his family's game-ranch business.

12.Pommie Mbangwa (Age 32) > COACH,COMMENTATOR.He represented Zimbabwe from 1992 to 2003.In 15 tests he has 32 wickets and in 29 ODIs he has 11 wickets.He struggled to maintained his position in the national team for his lack of pace.In 2001 he started television commentary,where his quiet thoughtful views were well received.He retired from FC cricket in 2003 at the age of 27.In 2005 he ended his coaching period to give his full time in television commentry.He is now regarded as a good commentator in the world.

13.Gavin Rennie (Age 32) > BUSINESSMAN.He represented Zimbabwe from 1996 to 2003.He struggled in the international cricket averaging 22.73 in 23 tests and 19.90 in 40 ODIs.In 2003 at the age of 27 he retired from all forms of cricket and started business.

14.Dirk Viljoen (Age 31) > COMMENTATOR.He represented Zimbabwe from 1997 to 2001.He averages just 14.25 in 2 tests and 14.22 in 53 ODIs.He has 1 wicket in 2 tests at 65 and 44 wickets in 53 ODIs at 37.25.He was an all rounder but his batting increasingly disappointed and his bowling became expensive and he was dropped at the end of the
2001-02 series against England.He last played FC cricket in 2002 and now he is a commentator.
