U19 Women's World Cup 2023

Post by secretzimbo »

Not sure if there will be much forum interest in this, especially with the mens team playing, but I'll be following the young Zimbabwe team anyway. Expectations are low - girls junior and schools cricket is a very new thing in Zim. Will be great if they can win a single match.

Zimbabwe are in Group B in Pochefstroom, and their first match is against England - the first fixture between Zim and Eng in any official cricket for years. Also Pakistan and Rwanda in the group.

Zimbabwe Squad: Kelis Ndlovu (C), Danielle Meikle, Adele Zimunhu, Kelly Ndiraya, Kay Ndiraya, Natasha Mtomba, Vimbai Mutungwindu, Tawananyasha Marumani, Michelle Mavunga, Olinda Chare, Kudzai Chigora, Betty Mangachena, Chipo Moyo, Faith Ndhlalambi, Rukudzo Mwakayeni

Reserves: Paula Whaley, Lisa Magomo, Portia Chaiwai

Zimbabwe Fixtures:

15th January: Zimbabwe Vs England
17th January: Zimbabwe Vs Rwanda
19th January: Zimbabwe Vs Pakistan

I think all the matches are being streamed on ICC.tv

Age cheating going to be next level here  Apparently our girls played Indonesia earlier this week in a warm-up and the Zim coaches are convinced half their squad were women in their 30's!

According to Kry Me a River it's entirely acceptable.
Women lie about their age world wide.

Jeez I'm not sure this tournament is wise. Apparently some Zim girls were in tears on the pitch today.....

Most of the England U19 players already have professional domestic contracts and a handful have played in the women's Hundred and women's county cricket.

Hopefully the Zim girls have good support from the coaches and staff and aren't too disheartened. Trying to beat Rwanda will be important thing in this tournament for them.

I don't think they're in a very good position against Rwanda at the the moment...

From 72-4 to 80 all out!!!

Can’t really be mad at a group of young girls many of whom have only been playing cricket for a year.
Hopefully they have good support with them and don’t just get bollocked by angry coaches like the u19 boys always do when they lose.

Unless they try and get some school cricket started from Grade 5 what chance do they have?

They've lost to Indonesia and are out of it.
