Glamorgan and Durham to tour Zimbabwe

Post by zimfan1 »

Glamorgan's cricketers will visit Zimbabwe for their pre-season preparations, in their first spell abroad since before the Covid pandemic.

They will be in southern Africa between March 1st and 17th.

Glamorgan will face Durham while there, as well as playing local opponents in red-ball and limited-overs matches.
Glamorgan have had pre-season camps in South Africa previously, as well as La Manga in Spain, but this will be their first time in Zimbabwe.

Kiran Carlson and Harare-born Eddie Byrom have been playing for Zimbabwean side Mid West Rhinos in recent months.

"We have heard great things from Kiran Carlson and Eddie Byrom, who have been playing domestic cricket out there all winter," said Wallace.

Good to finally have it confirmed. I thought Middlesex were coming too?

Great news anyway.

I wonder what format this will all take?

My best guess would be we select Northerns & Southerns sides and play a range of games in both formats against both counties, as well as them playing a few between themselves.

There was also a rumour that Glamorgan & Durham are both going to be in our normal Domestic T20 tournament.

Not quite first time in Zimbabwe - they were actually here in 1990/91, and Alistair Campbell scored his first f-c century against them.

A very very important 2 weeks which will tell us exactly where our domestic cricket stands.i think the overseas players have been giving good reviews. I suspect we will most probably see the Northerns and Southerns teams than the domestic teams but that is still a good measure. Can we field 2 competitive until without our senior players? That's the question I want answered. Will also show us how good these kids really are.

Either zimfan or BBC did some editing because the article does state that they were in Zim in 1995.
