Sorry but not many people get excited about 14 year old seam bowlers and it’s for good reason. Batters on the other hand…

And this is from personal experience of being involved with managing a number of school sides and knowing a fair few of the better school coaches in Zim.

You might have 10 decent seamers but truth is you have no idea which amongst them will make a bolt for it and be genuinely great until they’re late teens.

With batters you know by about 14 at the latest if they are special.

That doesn’t automatically translate into success of course. But I absolutely stand by the fact genuinely special batters are easier to spot at a younger age than bowlers.

Yes, but that is only a Zimbabwean phenomenon. You can't extrapolate that to all cricketing countries to make your point.

To be fair, ZCF and pakpassion are the only forums that get excited about 14 year old players. It is true that there is often excitement here about schoolboy batsmen, and I have seen a lot of threads on PP titled "Abrar Ahmed, 11 yo Quetta quick hits 95 kph". The idea being a kid who can bowl 100 clicks at age 11 will be bowling 200 kph by age 22, I guess.

But you will never see the Indian forums talking about players that aren't in the U-19 team yet.

Even in a cricket crazy country like Bangladesh, not a single player below the U-19 level is known by anyone.

Think about it this way: do you think anyone who saw a 14 yo Kagiso Rabada looked at him and said "yeah this kid sucks"? On the same hand, I would NOT be surprised if people saw a 14 yo AB de Villiers and thought "I have no idea if he'll be a legendary batter or not."

Batsmen require a lot more fine tuning, and their job is inherently riskier than that of a bowler. I bowler can bowl 100 deliveries of rubbish and with 7 or 8 good deliveries, come up with a five-for. A batsman can play 10 great shots, make one tiny mistake, and be headed back for less than 50.

Nah, gotta agree with SZ. I think its not as prevelant in Bd because most players dont come up through the schools

In the 2nd match yesterday the Tuskers were bowled out for 120.

USA ignored that target and set themselves a target of 280 which they hit with 12 overs spare.

True drubbing both matches as expected. Mavuta played and bowled well (1-40), also had a handy contribution with the bat with a score of 26.

They're a strong team - they may surprise a few teams. I wouldn't expect many associate teams to thrash this Tuskers side the way they've done. Masuku, Nyauchi, Mavuta, Mayavo, and Makoni are strong domestic performers and they were part of this side.
