Faithwear Series kicks off Saturday


FAITHWEAR series which kicks off on Saturday at CFX Cricket Academy and Harare Sports Club offers an exciting cricket menu for the domestic game as the best of the available players square off against each other in four teams.

The four teams are Northerns, Westerns, Easterns and Centrals. Northerns kick start the challenge for this season’s Faithwear honours when they face off against Westerns at Harare Sports Club while Centrals engage Easterns at the CFX Academy. Both matches are on Saturday.

Sunday at the HSC, Westerns and Centrals square off as will Northerns and Easterns at CFX Academy. The teams will have a two days rest before Northerns and Centrals resume their rivalry albeit at Takashinga Cricket Club in Highfield. Westerns will entertain Easterns at CFX Academy on the same Tuesday.

The next day, battle continues with Westerns playing Centrals just three days after their first fight for supremacy although this time the battlefield would have changed to CFX and perhaps a change of fortunes for either team. Takashinga would be the venue for the repeat clash between Northerns and Easterns.

Teams will then have a brief reprieve of action on Thursday before the next day sees Northerns and Westerns complete their unfinished business from the opening clash of the series at CFX. Centrals play Easterns the same day in Highfield at Takashinga.

Saturday March 7, the curtain comes down on the Faithwear series 2009 with Northerns and Centrals doing it at CFX Academy as Westerns and Easterns close their books on the contest.

There will be competition prizes for schools who will come to watch matches on weekends in school uniform and will have filled in correctly a set of questions at venues. The first prize of US$500 worth of cricket kit would be given to the winning school with the second prize being US$200.

The winners of the competition would be determined by Faithwear and Zimbabwe Cricket.

Mathew Waller and Edward Reinsford will be the players to watch in the Centrals team.

It is Malcolm Waller not Mathew Waller.Edward Rainsford isnt named in any squad.Moreover spelling mistake,it is Rainsford not Reinsford.

They can bank on the experience of former national team captain Taibu who has played in the lucrative Indian League, spinner Raymond Price, Graham Cremer and Elton Chigumbura who is a middle order batsman and middle pace bowler

It is Graeme Cremer not Graham Cremer.Also he did write Stewart Matsikenyeri.But it will be Stuart Matsikenyeri.

Just a couple of days ago, they had said Northerns were the favorites, with Taibu, Taylor, Price and Chigumbura in the line up, and today, they are back with Easterns
