Looks like the Takashinga Club wicket is a pretty good batting surface. Is this directly linked to any funding it may get.....?

Good to see that Graeme Cremer is getting runs(45*,55* in last 2 match) as well as getting wickets.I will be a big plus point for Zimbabwe if he is developed as a proper allrounder like Andy Blignaut.

Raymond Price has taken 7 wickets in the last 2 matches.Brilliant!More to come also ;)

It is a matter of worry that Tatenda Taibu isnt getting runs.Scored 4 runs in his last 2 matches.

Malcolm Waller is back with his 72 against Westerns.

Charles Coventry as usual played an aggressive innings of 81 in 69 delivaries with 7 boundaries and 4 sixes. Before that scored 45.

Justice Chibhabha got a fifty against Northerns. Before that scored 121*.But missed out yesterday scoring 0.

Stuart Matsikenyeri scored 62 against Westerns in the 6th match. Also 69 against Northerns in the 8th match.

Timycen Maruma picked up 4 wickets against Westerns in the 6th match. But didnt enjoy any success against Northerns.

Also it's great that Edward Rainsford,Tawanda Mupariwa and Christopher Mpofu are getting wickets as well.

Elton Chigumbura and Forster Mutizwa enjoyed some big hitting too.

Douglas Hondo took 2 wickets against Northerns. But was expensive more than 5 runs per over.

And finally Mark Vermeulen needs to get a big innings. He started in an aggressive way in the previous 2 matches but missed out.I think, first he should spend a little bit of time in the pitch to get settle and then punish the bowler...

Round Five:

Easterns beat Centrals by 3 wickets
DEFENDING champions Easterns beat Centrals by three wickets in the fifth round match of the Faithwear 2009 series at Takashinga Cricket Grounds completing a miserable combo series for the Chamunorwa Chibhabha captained side.

After setting a paltry 135 to win, Centrals left themselves a big task of winning the match against the all conquering Steven Mangongo coached side. Easterns quickly hit the target with 24 overs to spare to wrap the series whose destiny has never been in doubt.

Easterns, the only unbeaten side said they will complete the job by beating Westerns at Takashinga on Saturday. “There was never a doubt that we are the best prepared side in the series. That we have been beating every team we played is not down to anything but class.

“We are professionals and we are going to play our strongest side on Saturday although we have already won the series. The only changes that we will effect are of Stuart Matsikenyeri who picked up a groin injury in session and Shingi Masakadza who is preparing for the tour of Namibia. Otherwise all the guns would be blazing,” said Mangongo.

The tough talking coach said that his side has been beating all and sundry because of the serious preparations they put in the team. “We set the standards and everyone follows”.

“Basically our preparations were good, team strategy was also good. Our role play have been carried to the letter and our all round role play have been magnificent and such a team can not lose matches,” added Mangongo.

Easterns demonstrated in the series that they can play cricket according to the book as their tail enders such as Foster Mutizwa and Steven Nyamuzinga have been wrapping up matches with so much confidence.

That was one aspect of the game, Easterns demonstrated that even the Zimbabwe national can take a leaf from. It is interesting to note that Mangongo, who will lead the Zimbabwe A on a tour on Namibia starting Tuesday has proved the better of the coaches in the local version of the premier knock out cup.
That last paragraph has me worried. Mangongo for national coach, perhaps?

Westerns beat Northerns by 3 wickets
CAPTAIN Keith Dabengwa played a key captain’s innings as Westerns tore the form books to shreds when he led his side to a crucial 3 wickets victory over favourites Northerns in the fifth round of the Faithwear 2009 Series at Harare Sports Club on Friday.

His unbeaten 71 knock off 77 balls featuring a seventh wicket stand of 76 runs with Thabo Mboyi, who perished after being caught by Regis Chakabva off Trevor Garwe’s bowling was crucial in repairing the wreckage after the top order elected to lose wickets cheaply, chasing a modest target of 188 to win on a wicket that favours batsmen.

Dabengwa who was dropped on 69 with his side still 10 runs short of victory albeit with eight overs and wickets in hand, did all the damage with the bat after his bowling spell could only yield two wickets for 36 runs in his allotted 10 overs.

The Westerns victory dashed any hopes Northerns had of winning the Series after also losing to champions elect, Easterns on Wednesday at Takashinga Cricket Grounds. That unbeaten Easterns, again put winless Centrals to the sword again, left Northerns with no chance of winning the title.

After losing five wickets for just 77 runs, Northerns always looked struggling with lower order batsman Trevor Garwe top scoring with 34 runs before he was left stranded after Tinotenda Mutombodzi was run out last ball to leave Westerns with a huge slice of opportunity to take the match.

And they seized it with gusto quickly getting into stride in a run chase that was however made uncomfortable by the quick departure of Freedom Takarusenga who went first ball before Mark Vermuelen made 11 off 13 in just 23 minutes. That brought Tafadzwa Ngulube to the crease but he too lasted just 13 balls in which he hit 14 runs after a clean bowl from Raymond Price.

Romeo Kasawaya and Charles Coventry then tried to repair the damage with Coventry particularly outlandish with the bat, slogging five boundaries in his 26 before he was brilliantly trapped leg before wicket by Graeme Cremer.

But the moment Dabengwa came to the crease and quickly hit Trevor Garwe for four, Westerns looked back in the game and prompts for victory heightened, especially after the arrival of Mboyi whose aggressive play suited the proceedings well.

The victory the third for Westerns confirmed Easterns as champions of the Faithwear 2009 Series as their closest rivals Northerns can not catch them. Westerns can hope for a thundering finish against the champions elect and unbeaten Easterns at Takashinga on Saturday and if they win and Northerns fail to beat Centrals, the only side with no victory in the series, they can finish on second place.

Northerns might have lost the match but efforts from Cephas Zhuwawo (31) and an unbeaten 33 from Garwe complemented Cremer’s three wickets for 15 runs and Patience Charumbira’s rather expensive 2/60 in 10 overs.

Centrals won at last in the series (6th Round)

AFTER going for five tortuous rounds without a victory, Centrals finally remembered how to win when they dismissed Northerns by two wickets at Zimbabwe Cricket Academy on Saturday as the curtain came down on the Faithwear 2009 inter-provincial series.
The victory, in essence a face saver to the Chamu Chibhabha captained side, was largely deserved as Centrals took control of the game from the onset with the ball, shooting out Northerns for 229/8 in their allotted 50 overs before setting on a run chase that eventually yielded the victory.

Three wickets by Chibhabha, two of which crucial removals of the dangerous duo of Regis Chakabva (8) and Cephas Zhuwawo (29) ensured Centrals restricted Northerns to a low total, making their target attainable.

Even the 58 off 116 ball shift by opener Kudzi Kondo could not stop Centrals from registering their only victory of the series as other batsmen struggled for runs with even the captain of the day, Graeme Cremer who has been brilliant in the series, struggled for runs getting only 10 runs before becoming Bothwell Chapungu?s second scalp of the inning.

Resistance came from Trevor Garwe whose 42 not out was the highest score by Northerns and had he not run out of overs, he could have taken the score to 260-70. He made his runs from just 29 balls featuring two boundaries and a maximum.

But Chibhabha who was in imperious form took three wickets, albeit for a costly 54 runs before he took matters with the bat making an opening partnership of 39 with Chapungu in which he hit two fours and a maximum before Chapungu (24) was removed caught by Chakabva off the bowling of Patience Charumbira.

The captain was next after a stand of 60 minutes on the crease with just 25 runs for his toils. Simba Gupo and Richmond Mutumbami were both quick to the pavilion but Robert Chinyengetere made 72 not out helping Centrals post the first victory of the innings.

Hitting bowlers for seven fours and a maximum, Chinyengetere was particularly lethal against Trevor Garwe whom hit for 15 runs in just one over as the match slowly ebbed to its close with victory on the horizon for Centrals.

When victory finally came through tail ender Tinotenda Chitongo?s swashbuckling batting in which he slogged 23 from 22 balls, with a maximum that brought the score to 234, it was worth the wait for a side that was threatened with a statistic of being the only side to lose all the six matches of the rounds.

But it was not to be and Chibhabha was a happy man. ?We finally won a match and from the way we have been playing in series, we deserved more than just one win. We made some poor decisions and mistakes but this game was different in that we wanted to avoid a whitewash in the series.

?I am happy that we finally did that. The potential in our side was big and no team can claim that they found it easy playing us in this series. We were very competitive, committed and played some good cricket. It was just that results were difficult for us,? Chibhabha told the website.
