Williams and Ervine seem like the fragile guys who’d injure their batting wrist during a routine tug in the shower and then miss an entire three match series.

They’re probably not really injured. I doubt they ever play another international.Kriterion_BD wrote: ↑Fri Dec 15, 2023 4:44 pmWilliams and Ervine seem like the fragile guys who’d injure their batting wrist during a routine tug in the shower and then miss an entire three match series.

Ya I'm getting the feeling they may bow out when we're at an all time low, and probably when they are as well. It would leave us extremely poorly placed. This non qualification has absolutely been a nail in the coffin. It's going to take a supreme effort to drag ourselves back from the edge. We need some guys to take some cement and grow big strong spines. Its going to also take good governance and good coaching. Many pieces to the puzzle.

They’ve nothing left to play for.
The England test is 18 months away, the 2026 World Cup is over 2 years away and the 2027 World Cup is 3 or 4 years away.
That’s a long time in cricketing terms.

But no one ever seems to mention that these guys get paid handsomely to go for it.
They have every reason to go for a home World Cup send off

This is true. Sometimes I think they will leave but then who would leave on such good wages and with nobody challenging for your spot? They won't get that kind of money anywhere else.
Re: Zimbabwe vs Sri lanka squad
Imagine walking away from maybe 10-15k / month. You will milk it until they tell you to leave. I actually wonder how BT has been doing. This is are real life issues. Sometimes as fans we forget that. People will be saying Hami must go for example when all he has known is Zimbabwe cricket. Taibu was getting sued a few years back for failing to pay back a 40k loan. Suddenly you found him coaching in Bangladesh. Cricket is all they know.

Ya agree with your sentiments bro completely. It’s an easy pay day for them. I just wonder how long they could stick it out being losers. Getting beat every game for the next 4 years must be extremely depressing.

Re: Zimbabwe vs Sri lanka squad
True. But on the other hand we are now seeing their bodies struggling with very frequent injuries. Add that to the mental struggle of being part of this setup. It’s inevitable that Dave goes either after this series or after SL - do they really want to start again with a new coach and setup again?
Plus Williams seems to hate being away from home and both have young families.
We’ve been lucky they’ve stayed this long. Hopefully they stick around even longer but I certainly wouldn’t be surprised if they called it a day very very very soon.

Ya the older they get the more they’ll fall apart.
What was the deal with ervine at the qualifier? Did he even play? Seems madness picking a guy who’s always having mysterious injuries.
