The guys from Pakistan have been a good addition especially when the whole national team is gone and they are carefully managing Blessing and Ngarava. Ensures no matter who you are you will be challenged at some point in the game.

100% agree. They also have brought a competitive edge. Shakes up the feeling you sometimes get, that it is just a bunch of mates playing amongst themselves.

Only downside is that none of them have any pedigree to speak of in Pakistan, yet have looked a level above most of the locals.

Another 50 for Jonathan Campbell. Maybe Burl needs some competition.

This is a point we don’t talk about enough. I think the fishbowl of same core players domestically is a real issue. Too easy to learn each others play innately.
Also explains why nuffies from nowhere come in and take a bucket of wickets. Like that random Aussie melb club dude about 7 years back.

This is a huge issue. Massive.

It’s not just the actual standard and quality that is an issue, but also the familiarity as you say. We have a tiny cricket community here, everybody knows each other both on and off the pitch. They know how each other bowl. They know each others batting weaknesses. It’s too familiar.
Also the conditions and pitches. We play every Logan Cup match on the same two ground in the same city. Again, it’s so familiar.

It’s why Campbell’s big scores, or anyones for that matter, tell us absolutely nothing about his ability to score runs at international level.

To know whether a guy can make the step up you’d have to have an absolutely excellent eye for technique, watching every single ball of domestic cricket over years and analysing players closely. But of course our selectors watch about as much domestic cricket as the trolls and the shitposters on here. I’m pretty sure the selectors look at scorecards on the app and just pick based off that. They most probably either aren’t interested or are too incompetent anyway.

If we had a Test match tomorrow I have no doubt they would select Campbell, Chiradza and Mayavo based on this week despite probably not watching a single ball of their innings. Or ever!

Rare dismissal as Dalubuhle Mboyi is out Obstructing the Field. Of course, the youtube stream froze/skipped at exactly the precise moment so there is no footage. Ffs

I guarantee he’s never watched him play though, to be fair.

I’m really pleased for Jono. He’s been struggling to breakthrough for quite a few years so glad he has managed it this season. He even got released by Rhinos at the back end of last season.
Although runs against this very poor Rhinos side doesn’t necessarily mean he will do any better than anyone else who’s played for the national side recently.
