Zimbabwe prepare to host Afghanistan

Afghanistan's first foray into the world of international cricket following the ICC World Cup Qualifiers could happen as soon as the end of July.

Zimbabwe Cricket has confirmed that it is looking at possibly staging its opening four-day match in the 2009-10 Intercontinental Cup at home to Afghanistan on July 30.

Zimbabwe, who will be fielding an A team in the competition, albeit not under that name, will then host a match against Kenya at the start of October.

it be good to have another match before the bang series. Even its mostly A players playing.

That's good news, hopefully some of the national team players will get an opportunity to get some match practice ahead of the Bangladesh series. I wonder if there is any chance of ZC arranging a one-off ODI for the first eleven to have a hit out?

This is a good news ahead of the Bangladesh series. It will be an examination for the players. I guess, the selectors will pick the squad on the basis of form/performance in this particular series against Afghanistan. I guess, many players from the national side will appear in it perhaps to ensure a place in the final squad to face Bangladesh since the team selection has become difficult since Taylor, Vermeulen, Williams, Coventry all are available and likes of Malcom Waller and Forster Mutizwa are also pushing for places in the side. So, have a go to PROOVE the form.

Probably the squad will be made of players who played Namibia... Maruma, Manyumwa, Mabuza etc.

Honestly, I wouldn't mind if the full national team played Afghanistan. Maybe not the absolute certainties like Chigumbura and Price, I don't think they would have anything to gain from it. But the other players (Sibanda, Matsikenyeri, possibly even Taylor and Coventry etc) would probably like the opportunity to show the selectors their form in a proper match situation.

I don't think Afghanistan has even played First Class cricket before, so to be quite frank anything less than a total hammering is not acceptable - no matter who gets selected.

Yeah would be good to get some practice in for the national team players before the Bangladesh series especially with Bangladesh getting lots of match practice as well as the winning feeling against the West Indies
