A Cricket South Africa delegation was in the country for a two-day visit during which it conducted a "needs analysis" exercise to establish the areas in which it can assist with the development of cricket in Zimbabwe.
The CSA delegation included board vice-president Ray Mali, chief executive officer Gerald Majola, general manager cricket operations Brian Basson, South Africa Cricketers Association head Tony Irish and a franchise chief executive officer Jacques Faul.
The delegation met Zimbabwe Cricket officials, including managing director Ozias Bvute, his deputy Wilfred Mukondiwa, general manager cricket affairs Trevor Mutangadura, general manager finance and administration Esther Lupepe, outgoing national selector Kenyon Ziehl, high performance manager Kevin Curran and Eagles franchise chief executive officer Hugo Ribatika.
Addressing the Monday meeting, ZC general manager: public affairs, Lovemore Banda, said areas in which CSA could help include conducting specialist programmes for Zimbabwe sides at its high performance centre, facilitating national age group, women’s and men’s reciprocal tours.
The participation of Zimbabwe age-group teams in South Africa cricket weeks, the training of technical and match officials, curators and administrators and creating partnerships between South Africa and Zimbabwe franchises were also key areas.
The delegation toured facilities and discussed areas of co-operation and issues of governance.
The South African delegation, which left Harare on Tuesday morning, will in the next few days present a report to the CSA board that will table various initiatives for approval.
"In all we do as ZC, we are driven by the objective to spread, sustain and improve the game of cricket. To this end, partnerships with the boards in Australia and India have been established. South Africa are our neighbours and it is only logical that we work more closely with them.
"We discussed a wide range of issues which can only make our cricketing structures stronger. We are hopeful that the CSA board will approve the various initiatives that were proposed," said Bvute.

Reading between the lines of that, no Zimbabwe Chevrons in the SA franchise tournaments, then. "Facilitating age-group sides" might see an U21 or U19 side in the SAA Provincial competitions, though.
