Team for 3rd ODI

Post by Detective RDS »

It's your chance to pick a Zimbabwean side for the 3rd ODI. Remember, the series is 2-0 down for Zimbabwe already. So, be careful in selection process...

Well... I would call for some radical changes.

1. Vusi
2. Mark
3. Coventry
4. Taylor
5. Williams
6. Waller
7. Chigumbura
8. Utseya
9. Price
10. Mupariwa
11. Rainsford

If that dont work I suggest they go to see a sagoma...

Zimbabwean XI:

2 CHANGES IN THE SIDE

IN: Waller, Mupariwa
OUT: Masakadza, Chibhabha

1. Mark Vermeulen
2. Brendan Taylor (WK)
3. Charles Coventry
4. Sean Williams
5. Stuart Matsikenyeri
6. Malcolm Waller
7. Elton Chigumbura
8. Prosper Utseya
9. Raymond Price
10. Tawanda Mupariwa
11. *Edward Rainsford/Graeme Cremer

I like the idea of bringing Coventry at no 3. He did very well in the 2nd ODI scoring 61, looked solid to me. Can utilize the early powerplay overs very well. Chigumbura is there down at no 7 for batting powerplay.

I think, there will be a choice between Rainsford and Cremer. But I will go with Rainsford for the fact that there is very little in the pitch for the spinners and Zimbabwe should consider 3 men pace attack.

Asif Ali .................. From Pakistan.

100% correct selection on merit.

1. Sibanda
2. Vermulen
3. Coventry
4. Taylor
5. Williams
6. Waller
7. Chigumbura
8. Utseya
9. Price
10. Mupariwa
11. Rainsford

Other three players like Chibhabha, Maskadza & Matiskenyeri are failures and when you have some better replacements in bank then you should try them. Sibanda had a 100 against Bangladesh, Mupariwa is best bowler then Chibhabha who can take quick wkts, which Zimbabwe desparately needed & Waller is more aggresive and score more runs in domestic cricket then Matiskenyeri. As for as cremer's selection the team does not need third spinner. So you have no more choice then above lineup, try it and win the match if they play with holding their nerves.

Best of luck Zimbabwe

The thing is there is amplr cover for all these players. Chibhabha, Masakadza are just not firing. We shld try Waller, Vusi even Mutizwa though his not part of the final squad.

anyt eam without Chibhabha, matsikenyeri with waller, mutizwa will do for me
12.4 Odhiambo to Vermeulen, FOUR, that's an appalling long hop, Vermulen had plenty of time to get into position, drink a cup of tea, and pull the ball towards the long leg boundary- his first boundary today

Why leave the fastest bowler to get 50 wicket thas ridiculous Mpariwa should be in . Out Chibhabha and Matsikinyeri In Mpariwa and Mutizwa I think Masakadza should be dropped to the middle

My Zimbabwean XI for 3rd ODI

1. Mark Vermeulen
2.Charles Coventry
3. Sean Williams
4. Brendan Taylor (WK)
5. Malcolm Waller
6. H.Masakadza
7. Elton Chigumbura
8. Prosper Utseya
9. Tawanda Mupariwa
10. Raymond Price
11. Edward Rainsford

Well, Chappie is an opener basically and because of indifferent form of Hammie i would like to demote him to position 6 rather than keeping him out. Sean Williams is an inborn No.3, no doubt about that. Taylor is also in a scratchy form but again cant be kept out 'coz of loads of experience. So, my openers are both attacking and next two are fine accumulators who can change gears instantly. Then comes the mixture of aggression and defence in the form of vibrant Waller and experienced Hammie. No. 7 is Elton who should not bat lower than this. No.8 is Dots though i trust the batting abilities of Mupariwa more than him these days. Priceless Price and Rainsford last two.

I think any thoughts of dropping Masakadza is taking things a bit too far. He is our best batsman for the last couple of seasons after all, and a couple of failures don't change that. He will come good soon.

Chibhabha is also a decent batsman, but much underrated. Never gets the limelight. But the horrific experience he has had as a bowler has affected his psyche it seems. So may be he can rest and come back as a pure batsman.

The team: I am a little more convinced of what Streaky said before the series. Serve up the seamers. Mupariwa in for Matsikenyeri; Mutizwa (or at least Waller) in for Chibhabha.
