Who do you think was the better Test batsman?
In my opinion I'd say Andy Flower was the better Test batsman, he had a brilliant average of 51.54 and when he was in form he was brilliant to watch.

even though Andy was the better player i always preferred Grant as he was less talented but always made the most of his ability which is something i really admire in players such as Justin Langer and Nasser Hussain

I think, it's Andy Flower. An average of 51+ in the test format is worth noting. He was the number 1 test batsman playing for Zimbabwe which was a hard thing to achieve.
I'm not underestimating Grant Flower. Grant was also a very good player. Just in the comparison between them, Andy will beat Grant.

No comparisom not because they are poles apart but because of the fact that you just cannot compare both and dilute the effect of other.
They both complimented each other. Both played contrasting innings in their debut test as weell as historic Pakistan win.
There is no one in Zimbabwe when it comes to sheer concentration. Gobby (Grant) is picture perfect in that. When it comes to resue the team or in other words when you need a Steve Waugh, its only and only Andrew Flower.
Grant knows how to tease the new ball by constantly blocking it and when it comes to playing with tailenders in order to save a game, Andy is the man.
The question was about tests but if u look in ODI's Grant transformed beautifully from a solid defensive opener to attacking middle order batter. No words are sufficient for King Andy Flower and i am too small a person to talk about this living legend.

I think that settles it. No comparison between these two greats would do justice to the service they have done for their country.Dr_Situ(ZimFanatic) wrote:There is no one in Zimbabwe when it comes to sheer concentration. Re: Andy Flower vs Grant Flower?
andy is the best zim has ever produced,,
i know in initial stages of his carrer he was more of a keeper ,,
but last two years he was awesome and weather it is oneday or test he was the player who could single handedly turn the game around,,
i still remeber when i used to watch zim matches , i used to say dont worry andy is there,,,
grant on the other hand was never a relaible batsmen,, no doubt he was good but not a match winner like andy
i still last so many matches which andy and niel johnson, made us win from nowhere
last two years i wont say he was better but almost equal to ponting, absolutely awesome.....
i was so sad when andy and johnson left the side..
no doubt johnson played few matches but that were gud enough to reviel that he was awesome player..
grant gud but andy better

Overall I would say Andy Flower, although in fairness to Grant Flower very few players could compare to his brother, he was truly one of the greats.
Early on though I think Grant was the better batsman but his batting seemed to slip in standard over time and he became less reliable while his brother Andy became the most reliable batsmen is test cricket worldwide.
